iPads are fantastic devices, but they aren’t the easiest to store on a desk. Laying them flat uses up too much space, folding the Smart Folio isn’t very stable, and having a Magic Keyboard for tablets seems redundant next to a Mac. However, manufacturer Kuxiu has come up with an ideal solution to keep an eye on your iPad without draining its battery: a sleek aluminum stand that utilizes the Smart Connector for charging while still allowing access to the USB-C port. This is a smart idea for a well-made product, though it does come with some limitations.
Smart Connector: Great Expectations Versus Reality
When the Smart Connector was introduced at the end of 2015, it promised a plethora of clever accessories. However, the reality hasn’t quite lived up to the expectations. Despite being present on all models except the iPad mini, the connector has been predominantly used by Apple and Logitech for various keyboards. Swiss accessory maker Logitech did attempt to diversify slightly with a charging stand using the Smart Connector, but that effort dates back to 2016 and hasn’t been repeated since.
