The iOS 26 Liquid Glass interface has been the subject of much discussion since its release. While some find it stylish, others consider it disruptive and visually tiring. Apple has finally responded to the feedback and is preparing an option to tone it down.
When iOS 26 was launched in September, Apple introduced its new Liquid Glass design as a groundbreaking visual innovation. The transparency and reflection effects were meant to modernize the interface and create a sense of depth. However, in practice, many users have found these effects to be overwhelming. The 3D appearance of icons and menus, especially in dark mode, sometimes makes it feel like the screen is tilted or in motion, which can lead to visual strain or headaches.
In response to this feedback, Apple is making adjustments in the upcoming iOS 26.1 update. In the latest beta version released this week, a new option finally allows the reduction of the Liquid Glass transparency. This setting, found in Settings > Brightness and Display, offers two modes: Light, which stays true to the original design, or Tinted, which is more opaque and offers greater contrast. The latter reduces the translucent glass effect that was troubling some users.

This new setting is not limited to the iPhone. It is also available on iPadOS 26.1 and macOS Tahoe 26.1, ensuring a more consistent display across all Apple devices. The Tinted mode makes bars, buttons, and menus less transparent while enhancing contrast. This adjustment extends throughout the system, including apps and lock screen notifications. Apple states that this option was added following the feedback received during the summer testing phase.

Beyond this adjustment, iOS 26.1 introduces other minor updates, such as a new swipe gesture to dismiss alarms, new languages for Apple Intelligence, and a redesigned Apple TV icon. This interim update primarily demonstrates that the company is paying more attention to its users, who enjoy visual effects but not to the extent of feeling dizzy. The final version of this operating system update is expected to be released in the coming weeks for all compatible iPhones.
