Apple Intelligence Set to Launch in China
The Chinese Cyberspace Administration has recently approved the launch of Apple Intelligence in China, according to a report by Reuters. It was previously known that Apple had partnered with Alibaba to leverage a large, pre-approved language model by the Chinese government. Today, the Chinese company confirmed that its Qwen model will be integrated to enhance the AI capabilities of Apple products for Chinese users, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. Additionally, a spokesperson from Baidu has confirmed their collaboration with Apple to develop features for Apple Intelligence on the iPhone, though no further details were provided.
The Chinese Version of Apple Intelligence
The Chinese iteration of Apple Intelligence is expected to be markedly different from the versions known elsewhere. It will incorporate a third-party AI model which acts as a filter that the Chinese government can modify at any time. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal in December, Apple Intelligence had to undergo an ideological test, and Apple was required to adhere to stringent regulations. These include the elimination of any politically sensitive content and the capability to trace content generated through its services.
