Apple montre ses serveurs Apple Silicon en cours d'assemblage
Fifteen years after discontinuing the Xserve in 2010, Apple has once again started producing its own servers as of last fall. However, these servers are not for sale; they are exclusively for internal use, specifically dedicated to Private Cloud Compute and Apple Intelligence operations. In a press release issued today, Apple disclosed its plans to initiate a Mac mini assembly line in the United States. Additionally, the company revealed that it has “begun shipping advanced AI servers from Houston ahead of schedule.” The release included two images showing a 2U server being assembled and the racks being used by Apple.

Apple also granted access to the Wall Street Journal’s cameras, which provided further glimpses into the assembly line of these servers (starting at 7:13). This footage is highly recommended for those interested in a behind-the-scenes look. It features the production of wafers at GlobalWafers and includes a visit to ASML, the company responsible for designing the photolithography machines used in chip etching.

The development of these servers is part of an internal project, humorously nicknamed ACDC, which stands for Apple Chips in Data Centers. Until now, Apple has incorporated chips from its Mac line, initially using the M2 Ultra chip, and more recently, traces of M5 generation models have been identified. Apple is also reportedly developing its first AI-specific chip, which could be in production by 2026.
