Whether you’re trying to read outdoors under bright sunlight or watching a movie beneath intense indoor lighting, reflections can completely ruin the experience. You could slap a matte protector onto an iPad or Kindle, but what if your device already ships with a display that behaves like paper — no glare, no fuss?

I first noticed TCL’s NXTPAPER display when I happened upon one of their tablets in a Taiwanese mall, and since then I’ve been hooked on the underlying display approach — and with good reason.
Instead of glossy glass that amplifies every light source, TCL’s matte panels scatter reflections so you barely notice them. After spending time with the NXTPAPER 11 Plus, the NXTPAPER 14, the NXTPAPER 70 Pro phone and, more recently, the Note A1, the difference is striking.
In fact, I’ve been using NXTPAPER-equipped TCL hardware every day for nearly a year because switching back to a shiny screen feels like a step backward. The textured feel under your finger is pleasing, and the built-in stylus support across many models makes them terrific for sketching, jotting notes and other productivity tasks.
Even though October’s Prime Day frenzy has passed, these models are still discounted. If you’re thinking of ditching a Kindle or iPad in favor of a single device that’s equally great for long reading sessions and getting work done, TCL’s NXTPAPER family is worth a look — and they’re currently on sale.

TCL Tab A1 Plus: This 12.2-inch Android tablet hits a balanced mix of features: a 120Hz panel, a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 mid-range chip and a huge 10,000 mAh battery with 33W fast charging. Housed in a slim metal unibody with IP54 splash resistance, it’s roomy enough for reading, streaming and taking notes. It also ships with a T-Pen stylus and a flip cover.

TCL NXTPAPER 11 Plus: The 11.5-inch slate offers a 120Hz, 2.2K screen and an 8,000 mAh battery, but it’s the NXTPAPER 4.0 layer that really sets it apart. Scrolling and handwriting feel more like paper, especially when used with the bundled stylus. A carrying case comes in the box as well.
TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro: If you want a phone that stands out from typical glossy handsets, the NXTPAPER 70 Pro delivers a matte, paper-like display. It runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chip, includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage, and features a 6.9-inch 120Hz matte panel plus an NXTPAPER Key toggle. You also get a built-in IR blaster and a 5,200 mAh battery for extended reading and daily use.
TCL NXTPAPER 14: This tablet sports a huge 14.3-inch, 2.4K screen that gives you generous space for reading and drawing. While it uses NXTPAPER 3.0 rather than the newest revision, it still performs very well in practice. The spec sheet includes 256GB of storage, 8GB of RAM and a 10,000 mAh battery that supports fast and reverse charging. A stylus and case are included.
TCL Note A1: An ultra-thin 5.5mm Android slate, the Note A1 features an 11.5-inch 120Hz NXTPAPER display, an 8,000 mAh battery and a T-Pen Pro stylus out of the box. It’s designed to minimize distractions and make reading, writing and digital note-taking feel closer to paper while still offering full Android functionality.
