Recent discoveries by Aaron Perris in Apple’s server code indicate that Škoda and SEAT are likely to adopt Apple’s digital car key feature soon. This integration allows users to replace traditional physical car keys with a digital version accessible through the Apple Maps app. Earlier this month, similar evidence suggested that Volkswagen is also preparing to support this technology.
The digital car key feature not only allows users to lock and unlock their vehicles but also start them using their smartphones. Additionally, it offers conveniences like sharing the key with others via AirDrop or messaging apps. Currently, no French car manufacturers offer this feature. It is available only in select recent models from brands such as Audi, BMW, BYD, Exeed, Genesis, Hyundai, Kia, Lotus, Mercedes, Polestar, and RAM.
