Apple’s Big Decision: Will iCloud+ Include Integrated Apple Intelligence?

At the Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple’s Craig Federighi highlighted that the next generation of Apple Intelligence would include daily usage limits for remote models, with the option of extended access via iCloud+ subscriptions. Up to now, Apple has not specified the exact usage caps for the different subscription tiers. This is likely because, during Apple’s recent quarterly earnings presentation, CEO Tim Cook hinted that the company is currently observing how the beta systems are used to fine-tune their offerings.

Insights from the iOS 27 Public Beta

A financial analyst recently asked Tim Cook what conclusions he could draw from the public beta phase of iOS 27, which launched two weeks ago. Cook responded that the feedback has been “extremely positive.” However, he noted that it is still too early for Apple to assess usage patterns fully: “We don’t have a final plan yet, but we anticipate that some users will want to use it heavily. Therefore, we are planning upgrade options for iCloud+, allowing users to select higher-tier plans, and we will monitor adoption rates.”

Upcoming iOS 27 Release and Profitability Concerns

The release of iOS 27 and related software is scheduled for mid-September, giving Apple about six more weeks to make a decision. When asked about the profitability of Apple Intelligence, Tim Cook was cautiously optimistic, suggesting that initially, the service might operate at a loss: “We are adopting a hybrid model, using both third-party cloud services and our own data centers, so there will be a mixed allocation. As you know, our operational expenses and investments in AI have increased significantly. The impact of Siri AI on costs needs to be evaluated, but there’s also a potential for users to upgrade their iCloud subscriptions if they use the service extensively. The overall balance of these factors is still somewhat uncertain at this point.”
