Over the past few months, Elon Musk’s social media platform has launched several initiatives aimed at appealing to content creators, including offering up to one million dollars for a single post. Continuing this trend, X has recently unveiled updates to its Creator Subscriptions program, introducing the Exclusive threads feature, which may revolutionize how creators earn revenue directly on the platform.

These new tools are designed to increase potential earnings and enhance interactions between creators and their subscribers…

New “Exclusive threads” as a Paid Format

The headline feature is the introduction of “Exclusive threads”, a model that allows creators to offer access to certain discussions via a paid subscription. Essentially, a creator can post an initial message that is visible to everyone, but then limit the remainder of the conversation to subscribers only.

This strategy aims to motivate users to subscribe to access more detailed content. Creators might share in-depth analyses, tutorials, or additional commentary exclusively available to their subscribers.

Subscriber-only content will no longer be confined to a specific tab. Instead, it will now appear in the main profile feed, which should increase visibility and simplify the promotion of these posts.

Enhanced Tools to Promote and Manage Subscriptions

For creators, X has also redesigned several aspects related to managing subscriptions, including a new subscription card that can be directly seen on a link or post.

The platform has also introduced a dedicated dashboard that compiles revenue data, subscriber statistics, and various growth tools. The goal is to make it easier for creators to track the performance of their paid content.

On the user side, the subscription experience has also been updated. A new paywall highlights the benefits of subscribing before the actual subscription process, clearly outlining what subscribers will receive in return.

Additionally, setting up subscriptions has been simplified and can now be completed in just two steps.

A Strategy Focused on Creator Monetization

These updates are part of X’s broader goal to enhance its monetization program. Introduced globally in 2023, the Creator Revenue Sharing system already allows creators to earn income from their popular posts.

According to data released by the platform, over $45 million has been paid out to creators so far. The compensation fund is expected to increase by 2026, driven by the growth of Premium subscriptions.

Meanwhile, X continues to explore new content formats to boost content production, such as long-form articles and initiatives like X Money. The company aims to attract more creators and strengthen its position as a key source of news and analysis for its users.
