Android tablets have significantly improved, offering robust performance for applications and gaming, and excellent screens ideal for browsing and streaming.
From simple, budget-friendly devices perfect for leisurely browsing, to high-powered slates capable of replacing the best laptops, the market is rich with choices. Some of these devices are compelling alternatives to the top iPads, though not every tablet is worth considering.
To assist in navigating this broad array, my team and I have put together a list of the top Android tablets you can currently find on the market.
I’m Tony, senior writer at Tom’s Guide covering laptops, tablets, Windows, and iPadOS. I’m a big fan of Android tablets for their versatility and easy of use with third-party accessories. Some of my favorites include Samsung Galaxy Tab and OnePlus Tab tablets. I’m always on the hunt for the next best Android tablet.
Top Android Tablets You Can Buy Right Now
The OnePlus Pad 2 is an exciting Android tablet and an excellent update to its predecessor. It features a large 13MP rear camera, curved edges, and a unique 7:5 aspect ratio, setting it apart from its competitors. It remains one of my top choices for Android tablets.
This tablet has a lot to offer beyond its unique design. Videos and ebooks look fantastic on its 12.1-inch 144Hz display, and with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU and Android 14 OS, apps and games run smoothly and quickly. The lightweight OnePlus Pad 2 also boasts impressive battery life, lasting nearly 15 hours in our tests.
The only drawback of this tablet is its 13MP rear camera. While the image quality isn’t terrible, the photos are not as crisp and clear as I would have liked. However, the upgraded speakers (six speakers compared to the previous four) deliver exceptional sound. So, even if the picture quality isn’t the best, you’re still treated to a fantastic auditory experience.
The OnePlus Pad 2 not only looks great but also performs exceptionally well. If you’re looking for a top-notch Android tablet for under $600, this is a fantastic option.
Amazon tablets have consistently been known for their surprisingly good value, and the mid-sized Amazon Fire HD 8 holds this reputation well in its latest 2022 iteration. This 12th-generation model offers roughly 30% more power than its predecessor, smoothing out the performance issues observed in earlier versions. It’s also lighter and feels more durable, although it comes with a slight price increase.
This tablet remains an excellent value, offering a solid experience for its price tag of $100, if you can overlook some performance issues and annoyances like lock screen ads and limitations imposed by Amazon’s app ecosystem. If these drawbacks don’t deter you, the Amazon Fire HD 8 is a strong contender in the budget tablet market.
