Pixel 10 Battery Replacement Made Easy: A Win for Google Users

Following its recent launch, iFixit has dismantled the Pixel 10 and found that it’s more repair-friendly than the Pixel 9, especially when it comes to battery replacement.

The Pixel 10 has been on the market for several days and has already undergone iFixit’s traditional teardown. This process reveals the internal setup and component layout of the device. More than just satisfying curiosity, the teardown provides valuable insights into how easy it is to repair and replace parts of the smartphone.

The battery is often the component that users need to replace most frequently. Fortunately, Google has made it easier to remove the original battery and install a new one with a redesigned structure that allows virtually anyone to perform the repair themselves, even without extensive DIY skills. Battery replacement no longer requires opening the front of the phone but only the back panel. A dual-entry design, a new retractable sheath battery system, and a fresh green tab significantly simplify the process of swapping out the Pixel 10’s battery.

Easier Repairs with the Pixel 10 Compared to the Pixel 9

The ability to replace the battery is particularly crucial for a premium smartphone that aims to be long-lasting. Google emphasizes the 7 years of Android updates and security patches for its Pixel 10. This extended software support is a boon, but after a few years, batteries naturally begin to wear down and lose capacity. Being able to replace the device’s hardware oneself is thus a significant selling point for consumers planning to keep their Pixel 10 for an extended period.

The teardown also provides a look at the new Tensor G5 chip, which is no longer developed with Samsung but with TSMC. The magnetic Pixelsnap ring for Qi2 wireless charging is also visible from inside. iFixit praises a change in the screws used, which are now uniformly Torx Plus T3 heads. This uniformity eliminates confusion and makes both the repair and reassembly of the device easier.

The Pixel 9 had a repairability score of 8.6/10, which was already impressive. Google has not yet released the repairability score for the Pixel 10, but it could potentially be even higher.
