NotebookLM permet l’édition individuelle de slides et l’export au format PowerPoint

Two highly anticipated updates have been introduced to NotebookLM: individual slide revisions via prompts and PowerPoint export functionality.

Google recently rolled out two new features for the Slide Deck segment of NotebookLM, which is used to create slides and presentations. On the product’s X account, the team outlined the update in two key points: “Prompt-based revisions to adjust and refine your slides” and “PPTX export now available for your Slide Decks”. Previously, generating presentations in NotebookLM had a significant limitation: it was not possible to modify a single slide without regenerating the entire deck.

NotebookLM now allows for revising a slide without regenerating the entire deck

Until now, the Slide Deck feature in NotebookLM only allowed for generating an entire presentation from scratch, and any minor edits required regenerating the full set of slides. Users can now select an individual slide and specify the desired changes through a prompt. These requests are organized under a tab showing their status, allowing multiple adjustments to be accumulated before a single regeneration is triggered.

Google even recommends grouping these revisions together: each cycle generates a new complete deck, and there are limits on the number of generations. Another limitation to note is that it is not yet possible to add or remove slides. For the moment, only modifications to existing content are supported.

The PPTX export, a practical unlock for NotebookLM

The other update concerns exporting capabilities. Previously, presentations created in NotebookLM could only be downloaded in PDF format, resulting in static images of slides without editable text. The new PPTX format allows users to retrieve their decks in PowerPoint, apply a design template, add presentation notes, or incorporate them into a corporate template.

Google aims to keep users within NotebookLM to build their content and iterate through prompt-based revisions, before switching to PowerPoint for final touches. An export to Google Slides is also planned, though no specific timeline has been provided yet.

How to edit a slide and export your presentation in PPTX format

In practice, both features are accessible from the Studio panel of a NotebookLM notebook. Users simply need to load an existing Slide Deck, click on the pencil icon to enter revision mode and input their instructions slide by slide, then initiate the generation. The PPTX export option is available from the three-dot menu, alongside PDF download.

The rollout began on February 17 for Pro and Ultra subscribers of NotebookLM. Free users will need to wait a few more weeks, according to Android Authority. These features are currently available on the web version, while the mobile app allows for pre-generation customization of decks but does not support individual revision or PPTX export yet.
