Test Honor Magic 8 Lite : on a trouvé le smartphone increvable et il coûte 400 euros
Honor is enhancing its mid-range offerings with the Magic 8 Lite, which is now completely waterproof and—more importantly—sports a much larger battery for increased endurance.

The Honor Magic 8 Lite is a mid-range smartphone that follows the Magic 7 Lite, which was introduced in January of the previous year. The latter was priced at 380 euros, featuring 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

While the Magic 8 Lite is still priced around 400 euros, it faces stiff competition from models that were released a few months ago and have already seen significant price drops.

As we will explore, the new model includes notable improvements in design and hardware. However, it seems the manufacturer has chosen not to strengthen certain aspects of the previous model that were seen as weaknesses.

Design

The first thing you notice about the Honor Magic 8 Lite is its new design. It has been updated to the contemporary standard already adopted by other manufacturers. Gone are the rounded edges and screen, replaced by flat borders and a flat back. The screen is also surrounded by very discreet borders, a trend that is becoming increasingly common.

Also, the large notch from the Magic 7 Lite is no longer present, replaced by a tiny punch-hole for the front camera.

The rear camera module remains round, with a finely notched wheel at its perimeter. Only the position of the lenses within the module has changed (which has no impact).

Other than that, the dimensions and weight are nearly unchanged (16.2 x 7.6 x 0.8 cm for 189 grams). Moreover, the Honor Magic 8 Lite is available in two colors: midnight black and forest green (the model tested). Last year’s purple color did not return, likely due to its lack of popularity.

A positive aspect is that the back (in matte and soft plastic) of the green model we tested does not retain any fingerprint marks.

Another change is that the Honor Magic 8 Lite is now completely waterproof and dustproof, as it has IP68 (immersion) and IP69K (resistance to very hot water and/or high-pressure spray) certifications. This is a notable improvement since the Honor Magic 7 Lite could not survive accidental submersions (only had IP64 certification). We submerged it in water at 50°C, and it emerged unscathed.

Lastly, the smartphone is touted as being even more robust, now claimed to withstand a drop from 2.5m. Moreover, it retains the properties of the previous Lites and can still be used as a hammer to drive nails. We threw and mistreated it, and it didn’t flinch.

It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone has received a SGS 5-star certification (a Swiss, independent testing and certification company), which is a guarantee of durability.
