Celebrating Half a Century of Innovation

Last month, during an internal meeting, Tim Cook shared his plans to celebrate Apple’s 50th anniversary on April 1, 2026. Today, a press release from Apple declared the company’s preparations to commemorate “five decades of thinking differently and the spirit of innovation that has transformed how people connect, create, learn, and explore the world.” However, the specific details of the celebration were not disclosed.

While Apple is known for its forward-looking vision, this anniversary provides a perfect moment to reflect on our journey, honor the individuals and communities who have embraced this spirit of innovation, and celebrate the core values that continue to guide our actions. To mark this milestone, CEO Tim Cook has posted a letter on apple.com outlining the company’s history and values, and acknowledging those who have helped shape Apple over the past fifty years.

In the upcoming weeks, Apple and its global community will celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary, highlighting the creativity, innovation, and impact that people around the world have achieved through Apple technology.

A Letter from Tim Cook

On Apple’s homepage, there is indeed a link to Tim Cook’s letter, which notably references the Think Different advertising campaign. Here is the letter in full:

Fifty years ago, in a modest garage, a big idea was born. Apple was founded on a simple belief: technology should be personal. This radical idea at the time changed everything.

April 1 marks Apple’s 50th anniversary. From the first Apple computer to the Mac, from the iPod to the iPhone, from the iPad to the Apple Watch, and the AirPods, not to mention the services we use every day like the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Pay, iCloud, and Apple TV, we have spent the last five decades reimagining the realm of possibilities and placing powerful tools in everyone’s hands. Each major innovation was driven by the same idea: the world progresses through people who think differently.

Progress always comes from an individual – in pursuit of an invention, a scientific discovery, a field of study, or a story – who envisions a better approach, a new idea, a different path. This spirit has fueled Apple from the start. But it has never been ours alone.

Every invention we introduce to the world is just the beginning of a story. The most memorable chapters are written by you. You who use our technologies to work, learn, dream, and discover. You have made significant discoveries and launched businesses. You have comforted loved ones in the hospital and captured your children’s first steps. You have run marathons, written books, and rekindled friendships. You have followed your curiosity, found your new favorite song, and shared stories that bring us together.

In your hands, the tools we create have improved lives, and sometimes, even saved them. And that is what inspires us. Not what technology can achieve on its own, but everything that you can achieve with it.

At Apple, we prefer to look forward rather than dwell on the past. But we couldn’t let this historic milestone pass without thanking the millions of people who contribute to Apple’s success today: our incredible teams around the world, our community of developers, and all our customers who have joined this journey. Your ideas inspire our work. Your trust pushes us to always do better. Your stories remind us of all that we can accomplish by thinking differently.

You have taught us one essential thing, that the people crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

So, thank you to all the crazy ones.

The misfits.

The rebels.

The troublemakers.

The round pegs in the square holes.

To those who see things differently.

These words are for you.
