In addition to the annual salary scales for digital, marketing, and tech sectors, the recruitment firm Michael Page dedicates a section of its 2027 remuneration study to IT roles performed under service contracts. It specifically outlines the average daily rates for 21 of the most in-demand freelance functions in this field. It’s worth noting that there is no corresponding scale for the digital, marketing, and communication sectors, where Michael Page has only published annual salaries.

Project management and leadership: strategic roles at the top of the ADR scale

Seven of the twenty-one roles selected by the firm fall under project management or leadership, and these positions predominantly occupy the higher end of the scale. Transitional management holds a unique spot, as it refers to leadership roles assigned for a limited duration, rather than production-related tasks. Another unique aspect is that the project manager MOA, product owner, project manager MOE, and scrum master all share the exact same rates across every experience level.

Development, data, AI, and cybersecurity: CISO leads the chart

Among the five professions grouped here, the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is the only leadership position. This role also tops the chart at every experience level, and it’s the only one to reach an average daily rate of €1,100 starting from five years of experience. Cybersecurity also shows the highest growth rate across the board: the average rate for a security engineer almost doubles from entry-level to the ten-year mark. Along with artificial intelligence, it’s one of the fields where the firm notes a persistent scarcity of profiles and ongoing high demand for 2027.

Architecture, systems, and support: design earns more than operation

The range is widest in the infrastructure sector. An enterprise architect, also known as a city planner, charges more than double the ADR of a support technician with the same level of experience, and this gap persists across all levels of the scale. Operations and administration roles remain at the lower end, while DevOps positions are in the middle, comparable to a lead developer.

Methodology: Michael Page built its compensation grids based on assignments conducted for its clients during the first half of 2026, discussions its 600 specialized consultants had with companies and candidates, and the use of its internal database. The ranges are determined based on the number of years spent in the position, not the total experience of the professional. The average daily rates mentioned here correspond to amounts billed per mission day for freelance and transitional management positions.
