The Next Generation iPad Mini: Upgraded Hardware Specs
The upcoming iteration of the iPad mini is set to replace its current A17 Pro chip with the advanced A19 Pro chip. This revelation came to light through MacRumors, which discovered references to the new model in code accidentally released by Apple, indicating ongoing development in Cupertino. The A19 Pro chip is yet to be unveiled and is expected to debut with the iPhone 17 Pro in September. Users can anticipate enhanced performance levels, with the RAM likely increasing from 8 GB to 12 GB.
Display and Other Enhancements
Significant upgrades are expected for the next iPad mini, including a shift to an OLED display from the current LCD screen, based on various rumors. This change promises numerous benefits such as perfect blacks, higher brightness, reduced power consumption, and increased thinness. Additionally, Apple might incorporate ProMotion technology support, which would allow for smoother animations at a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
The cellular models of the new iPad mini might also come equipped with an Apple C1 modem or newer versions. There’s also speculation about Apple’s first in-house designed chip for handling Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. These improvements may lead Apple to redesign the iPad mini’s chassis. Similar to last year’s iPad Pro M4, the new design could be thinner and lighter while providing better battery life.
Release Considerations
If you haven’t yet purchased the current iPad mini, which was released in October 2024, and you are not in urgent need of a new tablet, it might be wise to wait for the upcoming model. However, it is important to note that the release is not expected until 2026, and the exact schedule has yet to be announced.
