Insider Scoop on iPhone 17 Pro’s Camera Capabilities
An anonymous source from the tech website MacRumors has shared some potentially groundbreaking details regarding the camera features of the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro, derived from an advertising clip currently in production by a Slovenian company. The source highlights three major updates that have not been previously speculated upon: an improved telephoto lens that upgrades from 5x to 8x via a continuous optical zoom at varying focal lengths, a newly added camera control button positioned on the top of the device (in addition to the existing one), and a cutting-edge professional photo application set to rival the likes of Halide, Kino, and Filmic Pro. This new app might appear as a revamped version of Final Cut Camera.
Enhancements to the Telephoto Lens
Previously, the telephoto lens was rumored to be shifting from a 12-megapixel sensor to a 48-megapixel one, possibly paired with a weaker lens, reducing zoom capability from 5x to 3.5x. This alteration would decrease the need for physical distance, adjusting from a 120mm to an 85mm equivalent focal length while still allowing digital zoom to achieve up to a 7x zoom on 12-megapixel photos. There’s a possibility that the zoom could only reduce to 4x instead of 3.5x at 48 megapixels, to ultimately reach 8x at 12 megapixels. The introduction of an adaptable lens system capable of multiple focal lengths would be a novel addition, but this information should be approached with caution due to its unprecedented nature.
New Camera Control Button: A Viable Update?
The rumor about a new camera control button raises some skepticism. Recent months have seen numerous CAD files, mockups, and prototype cases circulated among accessory makers, yet none of these leaks have shown any signs of this new button. Its proposed placement on the top edge of the iPhone also raises practical concerns. This rumor, too, should be taken with a grain of salt until confirmed by a more reliable source.
