Skype 2.0 for iPhone allows voice calls over 3G

Skype has been a little slow at updating their iPhone app but version 2.0 brings some highly anticipated updates for all Skype users.

Other improvements include:

  • Near CD-quality sound for Skype-to-Skype calls using wiseband audio (SILK codec) on iPhone 3GS and 2nd generation iPod touch.
  • Enhanced call quality indicator.
  • Improved start-up time.
  • Fast access to the dial pad from iPhone home screen.

Skype for iPhone currently lacks push notifications but, the ability to run background apps in iPhone OS 4.0 will make Skype-to-Skype calls on iPhone easier and more convenient. The next version of Skype could also add support for video calls after the introduction of iPhone 4G / HD.
