Airport Mania: First Flight HD [rating: 5/5]

My name is Craig and I’m an Airport Mania: First Flight HD addict. There, I’ve said it, and now I can start on my recovery. Although to be honest I don’t want to as while I initially thought nothing could match the greatness of Flight Control a pretender to the crown has surfaced and I love it!

The cutesy cartoon graphics may initially fool you into thinking that Airport Mania: First Flight HD for iPad is not a serious game but after just a few minutes of play you soon find out what a complex, yet fun and addictive game this is.

Unlike Flight Control where your only task is to successfully land your planes in Airport Mania you are not only the Air Traffic Controller but also the Mechanic, Gas Attendant and Flight Crew as you are tasked with landing, unloading, fuelling, fixing, loading and guiding to take off a multitude of planes.

While this may sound like a lot of tasks to juggle, and it is, it’s been very well implemented allowing you to queue up tasks which allows you to automate the process as much possible.

Your first task is to select the plane as it flies over head and then select an appropriate runway for it to land on. Next you must guide it to a gate where it can unload and reload it’s passengers before guiding it back to a runway to take off again.

This all sounds pretty easy but if you want to maximize your score and improve your airport you must do all of this before your planes get angry at waiting too long. In addition some planes may require refueling or repairs before they are sent back into the air.

Your options for maximizing your points are not over yet though as your planes are painted a variety of colors and matching the plane color to the color of the gates will earn you valuable multipliers.

Each level has a dollar value that must be reached it is that dollar value can also be re-invested to increase the airport facilities such as increasing the game speed, adding extra waiting bays and adding additional runways.

There are 8 cities to move through and a total of 84 levels which continue to add new features that keep things interesting and that’s before you consider the 25 awards that can be unlocked for completing a range of challenges.

Airport Mania: First Flight HD should be seen as a Flight Control replacement especially as it doesn’t contain a multi-player option, but it is a great game that is not only fun but challenging too and when you consider that it’s only $1.99 it provides great value for money.
