The ad showcases the entire process that goes into creating music, from writing the lyrics, making beats, remixing to filming the performance entirely on an iPad Air 2. Elliphant’s song “All or Nothing” was remixed specifically for this advertisement and it is estimated that Apple spent somewhere around $2 million for this.
In this ad we can see the recording artist using Pages to write lyrics and then GarageBand and Apogee Mic to record bits and pieces of audio. Then Riton, the producer makes beats using iMPC Pro and NanoStudio. DJ The Gaslamp Killer used Serato Remote to remix the song live while roaming the stage. The performance was filmed by Director So Me using a specialized lens and handheld mount with the Manual Camera app.
In order to showcase iPad’s capabilities Apple has once again chosen to show real tasks done entirely on an iPad. Instead of highlighting hardware features or camera specifications the company continues to showcase apps from the App Store to show what you can do with the device.
The ad was debuted ahead of 57th annual Grammy Awards telecast. It is also believed that Apple CEO Tim Cook and SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue were the focus of attention at a Grammy party held by record producer Clive Davis.
Apple acquired Beats Music for $3 billion, the biggest acquisition in the history of Apple. The company has been reportedly working on integrating Beats music with OS X and iOS.

iOS 8.2 includes support for the WatchKit SDK, paving the way for developers to create and test apps for Apple’s upcoming Apple Watch. The exact release date for iOS 8.2 is still unknown however, it may be made available publicly few weeks ahead of the Apple Watch launch.
Apple’s new wearable device will work in sync with the iPhone. Using WatchKit SDK app developers can add support to their apps to enable notifications and glances on the Apple Watch.
iOS 8 upgrades haven’t gone very well for users recently as after upgrading users complained about WiFi, battery life and bluetooth issues. With increased use of devices’ storage capacity many users were unable to install over-the-air update and had to resort to installing the update by connecting to iTunes. All these problems combined resulted in slower adoption rate initially when compared with last years release of iOS 7.
Apple touted iOS 8 as the “biggest iOS release ever”. It brought many new features for users and new possibilities for iOS app developers. Notable enhancements included all new Messages app, continuity, added features to camera app, third party keyboards, iCloud Drive, Health app and much more.
]]> https://touchreviews.net/ios-82-beta-4-released-registered-developers/feed/ 0“The best camera is the one that’s with you” is attributed to Chase Jarvis and that has never been more true with the quality of camera that are now in cell phones, specifically the iPhone 4S and of course the just released iPhone 5.
There’s no disputing how good the photos are that the latest generations of iPhones produce, however there are times when you want to be in the photograph. If that’s the case you currently only have a couple of options. You could do one of those at arm length self portraits or you’ll either need to trust your iPhone to someone else to take the photo for you.
Now, though there is ClickStik, a bluetooth remote for your iPhone’s camera and a tripod for your iPhone which allows you to remotely take photographs with your iPhone while being up to 30ft away.
Pairing your device with the ClickStik takes just seconds and with only one button on the remote it’s very self explanatory whether you take the time to read the instructions or not. The tripod is a little trickier to configure.
Firstly it comes in two pieces, the stand collapses for easy travelling and is secured in place when not in use by a velcro strap that doubles as a binding should you want or need to strap the stand down if you are taking pictures under conditions that require it.
Secondly the phone is held in place in a three point holder which will hold your device both with and without a case which can then be screwed to the tripod base. Your iPhone can also be accurately positioned based on your need thanks to two hand bolts that allow you to loosen, move and tighten with ease.
The product is made of plastic and overall the build quality is pretty good. The only piece I have questions about is how strong the phone holster is as it feels that any over zealous usage could result in a break.
Using the Bluetooth adapter to take your pictures couldn’t be easier either. The remote won’t work with the stock camera app so after downloading the free ClickStik app from the App Store and launching it, taking pictures is only a click away.
There is little if no lag between pressing the remote’s button and the photograph being taken and the pictures are automatically saved to your Camera Roll to.
Obviously as the pictures are saved to your Camera Roll you can use them with any app you like but the ClickStik app does include photo editing options itself in which you can add effects, frames, stamps, text and other effects directly in the app. Now, while this is no Instagram it does provide nice options and allows you to share directly to Facebook, Twitter and email should you want to.
At $49.99 the ClickStik offers great value for money, infact with both the tripod and the Bluetooth remote you are getting to tools for the price of one and if you take a lot of photo’s with your iPhone this would be a great tool to add to your iPhone’s Camera accessories.
[rating: 4/5]That’s not to say that Instagram isn’t a great app, it is, but there are better apps out there and Wood Camera for iPhone is certainly one of them, do read on though and I’ll tell you why.
Lenses are one of the main things users of camera apps like to use and Wood Camera has 23 of these, they’re your standard lenses but something that is unique about them is the ability to take pictures with the filter enabled. This can save you a lot of time if you have a lot of pictures that you want to take and add lens effects too.
Applying filters is just one of many adjustments that you can make to your pictures with 17 different textures, 12 frames and my favorite features of the vignettes which enables you to highlight specific areas of the photographs.
All of these features come with the ability to apply how big the effect is via a slider which puts you in control of how your photographs looks. Applying all of these features is easy to do with all the options available along the bottom of the screen.
You can also easily take a quick full screen view of your creation via a switch at the top of the screen and from a technical perspective Wood Camera will import your iPhone 4S pictures at the full 8 mega-pixel resolution to ensure that your pictures can look as best as possible.
Of course it’s no good creating this these pieces of art if you can’t share them with the world and there are no shortage of options there either. All of the major social networks are there from Twitter and Facebook to Flickr and even Instagram as well as to your camera roll or via email.
One final nice option is the ability to have Wood Camera launch to the photo taking screen meaning that it can be a true replacement to the stock camera application.
So if you are one of those people who wasn’t happy when Instagram were brought by Facebook or are just looking for a great camera / picture editing app then Wood Camera for iPhone could be just the app for you and is available for $1.99 from Apple’s App Store.
[rating: 5/5]What we like
What to know
The standalone app operates similar to the iPhone camera but has the ability to post the images to Facebook much faster and easier without going through two different applications. The Facebook iOS app could now be used strictly for accessing user’s profiles and posting messages. However, all other forms of interaction can be used much more easily through smoother, and better developed applications.
By releasing Facebook Camera, the company is likely making moves to set up integration with Instagram. Facebook purchased Instagram for $1 billion in April and will probably slowly erase Instagram’s name and use its user base and popular features in the new Camera app. There are currently several features such as commenting and liking the photos in the stream as well a number of filters adopted from Instagram and more may appear in the near future. Facebook developed the app to simplify the task of posting images to a user’s profile, which is a very long process with the normal iOS app.
With the Facebook iOS app, the images do not post properly at all times and sometimes comments and likes do not appear correctly. An app dedicated entirely to photos, comments, and likes will ease some of the issues that users have. Facebook Camera makes perfect sense, and will likely get better once integrated with Instagram in the future. A report published on The Verge elaborated the collaboration of Instagram and Facebook with the following:
The Facebook Camera team has been working on the app for months, and Mark Zuckerberg reportedly kept his desire to purchase Instagram close to the vest, as if he almost impulse-bought it. Had the Instagram deal never occurred, Facebook Camera wouldn’t really be much of an Instagram competitor anyway, lacking any mobile-only social circles and hashtagged sharing around specific topics. “Enhancing the Facebook photos experience on mobile is long overdue,” Facebook’s Derick Mains told me. “We really had to step up our game, and we’re committed to building Instagram independently.
The Facebook Camera is now available for free in the iOS App Store.

]]> https://touchreviews.net/facebook-camera-iphone-app-store/feed/ 4Apple has been busy getting iOS 5.1 software update ready for release as the company has been seeding beta to developers since November. As new beta updates were released details about future products, features and changes were revealed.
iOS 5.1 beta code had references to an unreleased iPad 2 model and then another beta release revealed that Apple will finally include ability to delete photos from Photo Stream from your iOS device.
In early January, details about the beta code pointing to quad-core A6 (A5X SoC) iPad 3 were widely reported and suggested that iPhone 5 and next gen iPad would support new processors. Now, according to a new leak iOS 5.1 software update will include a new camera button on the lock screen.
Among more than 200 new features which were introduced in iOS 5 Apple enabled a lock screen camera button to enable users to capture important moments quickly. When you double-tap the home button to reveal the quick camera access button instead of the regular button iOS 5.1 will now have a slider. When you slide the camera icon upwards it will launch the camera app so that you take photos with your iPhone / iPod touch camera.
BlogdoiPhone who gained access to “pre-GM” version of iOS 5.1 also claim that the upcoming update will finally include support for Japanese Siri.
We recently highlighted another rumor which suggested that code in operator profiles mentioned iOS 5.1 release date as March 9th. iPad 3 launch event is expected to be held on March 7th and it will be interesting to see if Apple mentions the release date for iOS 5.1 during the event.
{via MacRumors}
]]> https://touchreviews.net/ios-51-pre-gm-seed-leak-reveals-camera-button-support-japanese-siri/feed/ 0According to the stats reported by Scott Forstall during WWDC keynote event iPhone 4 camera is one of the most popular cameras used on Flickr. While Apple didn’t announce a new iPhone 5 with beefed up camera, with iOS 5 they certainly made some great improvements to the camera app.
One of the best things Apple added to iOS 5 is the ability to take pictures straight from the lockscreen. Rather than forcing users to unlock their iPhone and scroll through their apps till they find their camera, you can now just click the home button twice to bring up a camera icon on the lockscreen. Hitting the camera icon will take users straight into the camera app where they can start shooting away.
Users can now take pictures using their volume buttons on the side of the camera. With an option of using a physical button, taking pictures would certainly feel more natural now rather than tapping the shutter button on the touchscreen.
The biggest addition though that Apple has made in iOS 5 is the ability to edit photos straight from the Camera Roll. When viewing pictures you will now see an “Edit” button in the right hand corner. The Edit Screen has four icons at the bottom: Rotate, Enhance, Red-Eye, and Crop.
While Rotate is pretty self-explanatory, enhance dramatically improves the picture as the tests found out. Red-Eye reduction is another feature that the iPhone has sorely missed. Simply tap the red-eye button, you will be brought the “Remove Red-Eye” screen where you can tap on each individual red-eye to correct it. Tapping on the fixed eye again will remove it.
Cropping is another added feature. Simply hit the crop button and you’ll be brought to a screen where you can crop the photo. A neat little feature here is the “Constrain” button inside the crop screen. When a user hits the constrain button they will see a pop-up menu nine different photo-sizes to choose from.
Once you have edited your picture all you have to do is hit “Save” and then choose “Save to Camera Roll” to make all of your edits finalized.
And of course, once you’ve gotten your photo edited to the point of satisfaction you’re going to need to share it with the entire world. iOS 5′s Twitter integration makes photo sharing so much easier than ever before. With the “Tweet” button right next to emailing and texting.
The new and improved Camera app in iOS 5 is nothing revolutionary, but it’s still a great upgrade over the older version. Apple has added all the basic things you need to take a picture quicker, edit it, and send it out to the world in the easiest ways possible.
A few lines of code discovered in the first beta release of iOS 5 suggest Apple is planning a native panoramic camera function for iOS 5, which could make applications such as 360 Panorama, AutoStitch Panorama, and Microsoft’s Photosynth obsolete. It’s unclear whether the function can be somehow accessed through the first iOS 5 beta, but we may see it being introduced in a future beta release before the firmware goes public later this year.
]]> https://touchreviews.net/updated-camera-app-ios-5/feed/ 6HalfCamera from B1VisualEffects brings back all the fun of the half frame camera. A camera that uses a film format at half the exposure and in the case of this app the format is 18×24.
Within the app [$.99, App Store] you can take pictures, add filters, text and frame your image. When all the tweaking is done you can then save to your camera roll or upload to Twitter and Facebook.
When first launching the app it is not very clear what you need to do and what button does what. So at first you need to have play around with it and figure each button out. The place where all the action happens is the DP Center. Here you can change and edit your images. To start with you can use a picture you have just taken or upload one from your camera roll. To do this simply tap on the blank space and the option pops up.
When you have your images in place if you want to add a filter tap the chosen image. It will then give you the option to add one. You are shown 11 filters to choose from and again you just tap the one you like and it changes your image straight away. The filters are a good assortment of tones and colours and there is bound to be one you are looking for. You can use these filters before or after taking a picture.
The two images you have are split with a gap inbetween them. In this gap you can add any text if you you want. When you are in the DP Center tap the Text editor at the top right hand side. You then have a selected area to type your chosen information. Once all that is done you can preview it to see if you are happy with it.
The camera adds the pictures you take to a film roll just like you would expect in the classic cameras. You can take any two of the pictures that are near each other and make them into a HalfCamera image. If you want to see all these pictures at once then choose the film binder option in the DP Center and it shows up on screen in the film roll style. So it looks just like the real thing!
When taking a photograph you look through a 18×24 viewfinder and you can use either the front or rear facing camera. There is also an option to have the flash on or off. The film roll fits 12 pictures in and everytime you take an image there is a counter that counts down so you know how many images you have available to take. The camera also has some good sound effects and gives you the sense that you are actually using a real classic camera.
What makes this photography app different than many of the others is the ability to link two photographs together. The filters and effects have been done many times before but this is not quite as common. There is so much you can do with it. There is the fun side where you could stick together two pictures like the developers have shown in their screen shots. With the head of one animal and the back end of another. Or you can do like I have in mine the same picture with different looks. It is a good app if you are wanting to combine two pictures together and also add a few words and effects with it.
