When Apple announced the iPad in January some people who were lucky enough to get some hands on time noted with some disappointment that there was no way to lock the screen orientation. This can sometimes be annoying on an iPhone and consequently some third party apps provide it as an option. On a larger device like the iPad it could be particularly frustrating, especially when reclining in bed or on a sofa when typing or reading.
Apple maintained at the time that individual apps give users the option to lock the screen orientation into landscape or portrait mode. But the fact remained that the iPad itself had no universal lock, a feature that the Kindle and Nook boasted.
9to5Mac pointed out this morning that the specs on Apple’s site had changed to reflect this issue.
The iPad can also play Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
