SquareTrade, a consumer electronics warranty firm, has released the results of a study it has put together comparing the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 3GS in terms of the frequency and type of damages.
They had this to say…
Our data shows that iPhone 4 owners are reporting accidents 68% more frequently than iPhone 3gs owners. 4.7% of iPhone 4 owners reported an accident to SquareTrade in the first 4 months of ownership, almost 70% higher than iPhone 3gs owners, 2.8% of whom had an accident over the same time period.
Accidents related to the iPhone 4’s glass front and back are slightly under double that of iPhone 3GS incidents. Which makes sense when you consider that the iPhone 4 has twice the glass of the iPhone 3GS.
It’s really a personal call on whether you feel that the design aesthetics of a phone make it worth taking a little bit more care with it. For me it’s no problem, but it may not be for you.
Either way, these figures are not shocking. Simply about what one would expect. If you want to throw your phone around buy a Nokia I say!
Do you think the ease with which the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS glass breaks is unacceptable? Or something you can live with? Have your say in the comments…
