Miriel’s Enchanted Mystery [rating: 5/5]
It’s not even been 6 months since Miriel the Magical Merchant for the iPad was released to rave reviews, including from myself, and now the follow up has been released in the form of Miriel’s Enchanted Mystery.
If you’re a fan of time management games then you know what you are getting with Miriel’s Enchanted Mystery. While there is a back story of hunting for the code to a mysterious magical egg the main part of the game is spent serving customers in Miriel’s store.
The customers will arrive, place their order in the form of a speech bubble and then it’s over to you and Miriel to do your stuff. There are 2 steps to providing your goods to the customers. Firstly you’ll need to place a range of ingredients onto your shelfs that you can then call upon to either give to the customer directly or to use as ingredients for other goods.
This is where the balance comes in as you have to balance stocking shelves with the correct goods, making the goods and then serving the customers including picking up their money. The quicker you do all this the happier the customers and subsequently the more they’ll pay.
Between levels you will be able to upgrade your store and even buy magical potions that will help you in serving your customers, this includes my favorite the Genie who automatically fulfils all your orders.
Just like the original game there are mini games thrown in too as you make your way through the story hunting for answers to the mysterious egg. This time it’s a hidden object game and to be honest it could stand up as a game in it’s own right. You’ll need to find multiple items and each of them is broken up into smaller subsets of pieces. The environments are good looking and detailed too.
The whole of Miriel’s Enchanted Mystery is a delight to look at with bright, colorful and detailed environments. The storyline is engaging although you don’t have to follow it to enjoy the game. Once you have completed the game though the only way to play again is to start from the beginning, there’s no ability to play certain levels again to up passable grades to expert grades.
At just $4.99 this is a must buy for anyone with an iPad, let alone fans of time management games. If you are looking for a way to spend some time with the one you love this Christmas, (I’m talking about your iPad), then Miriel’s Enchanted Mystery should be on your shopping list.
