During WWDC 2012 conference, Apple’s SVP of iOS software, Scott Forstall mentioned that in iOS 6 the App Store was going to be redesigned. However, the company never specified as to what it would look like or exactly what they were changing.
After Apple’s acquisition of Chomp, the App Store search layout is getting a major reboot. The App Store in iOS 6, with the new Chomp makeover now shows apps in the form of swipeable cards, which gives users a screenshot of the app, five star rating system, and the familiar Install button.
Apple has also enabled Genius recommendations in the new App Store interface to suggest apps for users based on the apps they’ve already downloaded. The Cupertino company has also gone ahead and shed light on the podcast feature which pushes out a message to users when a Podcast link is clicked that the Podcast app is required to play it.
iOS 6 is expected to be released on September 12th, during the same event of the iPhone 5 announcement. It is also likely that iOS 6 will be released on the same day the iPhone 5 goes on sale, so all devices, old and new will be running the latest software at the same time.

Just type poker into the App Store search field and you’ll get what seems to be a never ending list of poker games and so you may think what can a new poker game add to the genre that hasn’t already been done? Well as the title suggests this game brings you poker and dogs!
I’m not sure why dogs have been associated with various indoor sports games, something to do with them being mans best friend and trusting perhaps but dogs have been depicted playing poker in art for centuries now. It’s those pictures that are the inspiration behind this game.
Because of the aforementioned art link between dogs and poker the game ‘Dogs Playing Poker’ developed by Candywriter looks great. The dogs ooze with personality and the environments where the games are played are beautifully drawn and look stunning.
For those of you that haven’t played poker before, if there are any of you out there, the game starts with a short tutorial of both the rules of Texas Hold ’em and how Dogs Playing Poker works to. The tutorial is carried out while playing a couple of training rounds of poker so it helps you get up to speed very quickly.
Now that you are ready to play the game seriously, you need to choose the doggie representation. Initially you get to chose from 4 dogs but as you progress you’ll get to unlock 18 other puppies to play with plus 1 fox and a walrus! As far as I can tell the only difference this makes is the look of the dog that you play with. Still it gives you something to aim for and is the basis of the integration with OpenFeint.
The game plays well with you and your four doggie opponents sitting side by side as your cards are dealt. There is a guide next to your cards giving you an indication of how good your hand is and it’s updated as each of the community cards are dealt.
Choosing your action is easy to select with three large buttons placed down the right hand side of the screen allowing you to choose to between calling, raising the bet or going all in.
Each round moves along at a good pace and you can also turn off the dealing and the other dogs moves in the settings to make things go along even faster although I preferred the option of leaving it all switched on and taking advantage of the fast forward option available at any time that will fast forward through the turns before automatically stopping when it’s your turn.
Dogs Playing Poker is a fun game and will fill anytime when you are in need of a quick poker fix, it’s not going to replace the serious poker playing apps which also include multi-player options unlike this one, but is entertaining none the less. If you want a fun, single player poker app then Dogs Playing Poker fits the bill perfectly.
