Monsterz’ Revenge is a game that pits you and the rest of monster-kind against fast food chains that are taking over the monster graveyard. This game is a food fight between the humans and the monsters and you’re on the side of the monsters. You can play mini-games and it also features Farmville style customization of your graveyard.

Monsterz Revenge is extremely simple to pick up and play despite its several different methods of play. Whether you are tricking out your hideout where you serve your food, playing mini-games or battling the human restaurants with your battle car, the controls are simple. This is largely a menu based game but the mini games require tap style gameplay. Timing seemed to be the central theme in the mini-games I played. The shock game that I played tasked you with a selected icon like the one that popped up in a certain window. This was a read and react style game that required some quick thumbs. The battles with other restaurants were almost all about timing. A power meter goes up and down and selecting it at its highest point causes the most damage. These dead simple methods of control make this game easy to pick up and get right to the fun.

Monsterz Revenge

The three core game types help change up the game play throughout the game. The part of the game where you serve customers and deck out your hideout really reminded me of Farmville style of play. Buying new tables and burners to cook with reminded me of buying new tractors and things from the hugely popular farming game. The mini-games, like in all games, is a great way of varying up the game play and changing the pace from time to time while giving the player a way to earn more money and points. The battle car is the most crucial part of the game as the entire point is to compete with the human restaurants that are invading your turf and send them packing. The battle car is what much of the game revolves around as you are steadily trying to earn money to purchase upgrades for your car. This is the way you beat the other fast food joints so this is crucial and kind of fun. Essentially you are juicing up a huge battering ram and it looks awesome. The three different game-types change the pace and do a great job of complimenting one another.

Monsterz Revenge

The presentation was very impressive. I was impressed with the overall visual aspects of the game. They really focused on putting some detail in a game I didn’t expect it from. There are nine different characters and always pesky humans wondering into your hideout that you must do away with.

The different game-types have their own independent look and while they follow a central theme, they are different from one another. The audio is also very impressive and the sound effects are great. You also have the option to visit friends’ graveyards, view their car garage and even send them gifts. Sound familiar?

I really enjoyed this game and I definitely think it was a great idea pulling some ideas from the popular ‘freemium’ games. Overall the game offers a lot of content and it comes at a great price… free! Check it out!

The premise of the game is to see how you stack up amongst the show’s cool crowd and see if you can go from zero aka new kid to hero. The game packs a solid storyline and has several mini-games that keep the game fresh and fun.

I must say, I do not watch the new version of 90210 but I did catch the original show a few times here and there so I understand the idea of the show. The game follows suit by pitting you as the new kid that is trying to fit in. You are tasked with making decisions that dictate whether or not you will be part of the “in” crowd or not. The social platform that you are trying to scale to the top is West Beverly High in Beverly Hills, CA. This is no simple task and there will be tons of decisions along the way that will play a role in how high you can go.

90210This game is a role-play game at heart with mini-games that allow you to pepper in some different game experiences. At the beginning of the game you have to select your character and their appearance. You will have to make decisions that determine what people think of you and that directly affects your popularity. For instance, one mini-game consists of picking out some clothes for an event. Another mini-game is when you get a job at a diner and you have to serve patrons. These mini-games along with others help keep the game from getting stale. Another type of task that you will tackle is when you are faced with situations like almost dropping your tray in the lunch room, there will be a timing game that pops up and if you stop it in the green disaster is averted but if you stop it in the red then you drop the tray. Obviously things like this have a huge effect on your popularity.

90210 iPhone ShowFor the most part, this game is a still frame game where your spend time making decisions about what you should or shouldn’t say in a given social situation but mini-games change the pace and give the game another feel. Most of the decisions are no brainers but sometimes you are faced with picking the lesser of two evils. This part can get tricky but it is mostly straightforward and somewhat entertaining because you are living out your version of a 90210 character. One decision I recall from early on in the game is when you are still considered “the new kid” and you have to decide how to explain your mom dropping you off at school.

The audio and visual presentation of the game vary. The visual aspects are nothing to write home about but the game is not made for the visual appeal as much as the role playing aspects which it does quite well. The audio isn’t bad and the fact that you can use your own music in the game is a great feature. I love having the choice to replace game tunes with my own music.

90210 iPhone ReviewOverall this game is about role playing and it does a great job with it. The mini-games change up the delivery of this game and adds multiple games in one. The story is a good one and you can easily get caught up in it just as you might in a series on television. The story and ever-changing gameplay keeps this game fresh. The fun comes from the social situations that you work your way into and the mini-games that ensue from those decisions.

If you were to lay down three million great white sharks (with freaking laser beams of course) from nose to tail, they’d stretch from New York to London and back.

This milestone for the wildly successful app also comes just days within Bolt Creative releasing Pocket God #1, a new comic book based on characters from the game, which will be the first issue of a new four part mini-series.

Starting out as just a week-long pet project for Dave Castelnuovo and Allan Dye, Pocket God became a breakout success just months after its release. What began as a great sandbox app where the only premise was to torture loyal islander subjects has transformed into one of the most beloved titles on the App Store. With more than 30 free updates, which have introduced a slew of mini-games, new islands, and creative ways to end Pygmy lives, Pocket God continues to remain in the top 50 Paid App list on iTunes, consistently impressing players old and new with its deviant humor and all around fun.

“We can’t thank the fans enough for all their support, enthusiasm, fan sites, YouTube videos, suggestions for content, and everything else,” said Bolt Creative CEO Dave Castelnuovo. “Since day one we’ve embraced our community and we’re ecstatic to see that feeling reciprocated. We’ll continue to push Pocket God into new realms and keep giving the legions of PG fans out there more tools to become great deities. Deities great at offing the little islanders that is!”

Rabid Gophers [rating: 4/5]

Rabid Gophers is a well designed reaction puzzle game. It is a game that is a lot similar to whack- a-mole and Smack it that are already available in the app store. The type where you have animals popping up out of holes and you have to hit them on their heads in some shape or form. The game itself is easy to follow and understand, you are a farmer protecting your farm from the eerie rabid gophers terrorising it, you have to kill the gophers to protect the farm. You do this through the different levels.

There are three mini-games within the actual game. The first is Gopher Blast, an ugly gophers head pops up out of the ground and you have to tap it with your finger to shoot it. This kills the gopher dead and you will know if you aimed well because you see the blood splatter everywhere and hear the squelching sound effects. You have a minute to keep this up without missing any. If you do miss one, the game is up and you start the level again.

Rabid Gophers_5

There are three levels to each mini-game. The first level is very easy and at that point I was beginning to think maybe its more for a child rather than an adult game. The next two levels though did get a lot harder and by level three they were popping up fast but I still managed to complete it first attempt.

Rabid Gophers_3

The next mini-game is Gopher Bombs. It is the same layout with holes in the ground but now there are bombs attached to the holes that you need to detonate. To do this there are six coloured buttons and they will light up in a particular sequence and you have to copy that sequence before the time runs out. If you manage to copy the sequence then the bombs will detonate and kill the gophers, if you don’t then you fail and have to restart the level. Again there are three levels to the game each a minute long and each gets harder. By the time it came to the third level it was a lot harder and it took me a good few attempts to do it and at one point I thought I was never going to do it!

Rabid Gophers_4

The final mini-game is Gopher Sniper and the gophers pop up out of the holes and you shoot them with the sniper gun. To do this you drag the target button to the hole then tap the screen and it fires, again with three levels each getting harder. The target button is the same size as your finger tip and the controls for this I found a bit hard to enable you to aim and shoot. You have to be quite exact with your aim but it was hard to see if you had it correctly lined up because your finger was covering most of it. By the final level and many many attempts at completing it I figured out if you press the target button at the bottom it made it slightly easier to aim.

After the three mini games I was getting into the game so was quite disappointed that I had completed all the levels and completed the game. So basically you have only 9 levels of games to do and that is it! There are two modes to the game. Campaign mode which is 1 player and you do the 3 mini-games and achieve awards for your high scores and Survival mode which is powered by OpenFeint and you attempt a particular mini-game and achieve awards for high scores and best times with other online players.

The game is far too short otherwise it was beginning to be quite enjoyable and a fun game. Once you have played the campaign mode and got all your rewards there isnt much left for you to do and probably not a game I would replay. I would say the game isn’t for kids firstly because the levels do get quite hard but if you fail the level, each time you do a huge gophers face with snarling teeth jumps out and fills your screen and makes a very loud scream. This I felt was maybe a bit scary for a younger child. I was playing next to my eight year old and she really didnt like the game once she had seen this.I feel because of how short the campaign mode was that the developers are aiming for it to be more popular towards gamers that use openfeint and play the survival mode.

There are some good points about the game, before each mini-game starts in the campaign mode you have a little animation showing the farmer and the gophers which I thought was a great unique idea. Although it can not be skipped so once you have seen it I imagine it would get annoying that you have to watch it every time you restarted the game. It is not a long lengthy clip but an eager player doesn’t like to wait!

The graphics for the game are very good and clear and the instructions to play are easily explained although there is not much to do on screen except hit the holes. The sound effects fit in well with the eerie and gory graphics. There are lots of squelching, blood splattering noises and haunting screams through out the game.

Mini games themselves are also very good but I just think the developer could have done alot more with this. If they increased the number of levels and add more puzzles it would make this game well worth playing. It has a lot of potential to be a unique and popular game.

Look into the light, then mix it up!

Chromixa is a new and unique colour-blending puzzle game, designed specifically for the iPhone & iPod touch. Like all good puzzle games, Chromixa has a simple concept which creates progressively harder puzzles. A fun and addictive mental challenge for all ages!

Chromixa has to be one of the most exciting puzzle games I’ve played this year with each level giving you an outline and a series of shapes with your task being to fill it, sounds so simple and done to death right? What makes this complex is that you have to fill the outline with the same colour as the line overlaying primary colours (and later on secondary colours) of the shapes using colour theory.

Chromixa iPhone

With 48 levels spread unevenly over three difficulties, Easy (18), Medium (18 again) and “Difficult” (12 levels) you won’t find yourself completing this addicting game any time soon especially as they get more and more complex as you progress. There is a comprehensive help video complete with play/pause and timeline scrub so you can take in the information at your own pace and if you find yourself stuck on a certain level don’t worry you are free to skip any level you like, even choosing a different one all together if you so desire.

As you complete the puzzles you earn points which can be used to unlock mini games, there are presently three unique mini games with gameplay still based on colour theory each displaying the top score with the name entered at that time but no highscore board.

Graphics here are a simple affair with black backgrounds and pure bright colours, a slight rough edge here and there spoils things if you look close enough, though the animation is as smooth as silk which is surprising considering how quickly this game loads on my iPhone 3G. Sound tracked by a peaceful yet electronic happy single song, most would seek to turn it off although fans of The Album Leaf would feel at home here. Sound effects are the click, tick or whoosh affair with the occasional electronic tone, anything more would spoil and irritate.

Perhaps the biggest irritant I have with this game is the lack of multi touch, which I find shocking for a game “designed specifically for the iPhone & iPod touch” having to tap each shape to highlight it then drag it into place (you can’t tap and drag instantly) then having to move my finger around the highlight circle to rotate it just feels SLOW in this day and age of multi touch gestures.

While the lack multi touch spoils things a little, it can’t stop this game being a solid puzzler that anyone up for a challenge should play.

Micro Mayhem brings mini fun to your handheld

Team Phobic, the developer of Bounce On, presents Micro Mayhem, the action-packed party game that is 25 games in one! Fly rockets, drive cars, solve puzzles, power windmills, improve your reflexes, and sharpen your memory in a series of fast paced micro-games.

See how far you can get in the endless single player mode, or hone your skills in practice mode by playing any micro-game at increasing difficulties.

Challenge your friends in party mode, passing the device after each micro-game and see who reigns supreme!

Fans of Wario Ware or Four Second Frenzy will definitely enjoy the past paced chaos that is Micro Mayhem.

Micro Mayhem is a fast paced, action packed party game in the style of Wario Ware that’s available on all the Nintendo platforms.

Three styles of play are available, Normal, Practice and Party all of which offer a different flavor of the same frantic action.

Launching Practice mode allows you to choose from any one of the 25 mini games to hone your skills for the serious challenge ahead. What is nice about Practice mode is that it is a game in itself too as it keeps track of your high scores against each on the games and some practice will be needed as you don’t get much time before the bomb fuse signals that your time is up.

Selecting a game in Practice Mode is done via stretch and zoom screen where you can pinch and scroll the screen to find the game you want to play and then you get to play the same game as many times as you can before your 3 lives are up.

Normal and Party mode are the same game with the one difference being that in Party mode you get to pass the handset between the multiple players until there is only one person standing after all other players have lost their lives. The number of lives can also be controlled so that the game can be as short or as long as you like.

As soon as you launch either the Normal or Party modes the action comes thick and fast and with some of the games being in portrait and some in landscape you have to be alert to switch the orientation as required.

The 25 games include focusing a camera, unlocking a padlock, solving math puzzles, flying a rocket, driving a car and popping balloons along with 19 others and all take advantage of the accelerometer and touch screen. The game sound, graphics and style are similar to that of the 16 bit console era but that is no bad thing for this type game.

High scores are kept locally with no online functionality. The game is fun, especially so in Party mode but even with 25 mini games available it can get a little repetitive.
