I am notorious at forgetting things, and to help me remember I purchased some of those “to-do list” apps from the app store. Well there is one BIG problem; I always forget to check the “to-do list” app. Then came along “Stick It”, the answer to my problems. Stick-It is an app that puts your appointments, shopping lists, directions, etc. right in a place where you will see it every time you look at your iPhone or iPod Touch; right on the main wallpaper.
There are many options to customize your message. Starting off you get to choose a background from 15 patterns, like cork board, brick wall, wood grain and much more. If patterns are not your thing, then how about choosing from one of 15 solid colors; or even a picture from your camera. Then select from different color Post-its, cartoon bubbles, metal plaques, torn up scrap paper, or even street signs to write your message on. The customizing doesn’t stop there, you can also choose one of 18 different fonts raging in size from 8pt to 30pt, which you can then, change the color to one of fifteen different choices. You are given the ability to move your messages anywhere on the screen, so the possibilities are endless. So as you can see, once you start to play around with this app, you will definitely find many other uses.

Even before reviewing this game I’ve always been a fan of the throw large weights at a target type game, whether that be the indoor variety like Shuffle Board, the ice variety like Curling or the grass variety of Boule, so to get an iPhone app in the same vein was very exciting.
For those of you who don’t know the game of Horseshoes it is best played outside in the warm sunshine with a horseshoe in one hand and an ice cold drink in the other. The aim is to launch the aforementioned horseshoe through the air to a pole sticking out of the ground in the attempt to get as close as you can or even better, hook the horseshoe around the pole itself.
So with all that said how does the iPhone version match up to the real thing? With a cold drink on hand and sunshine streaming through my window I fired up the app and set about my review.
HorseShoes Pro comes with four styles of play, Ringers, Arcade Toss and Tournament and Play-n-Pass which allows you to challenge someone head-to-head on a single iPhone/iPod Touch.
The game offers the usual polish of other Skyworks games with effective graphics and sound rather than groundbreaking, but as with many games it’s all about the gameplay rather than how pretty it looks.
For those wanting an authentic game of Horseshoes then Ringers or Tournament Mode are the choice for you and the game plays very well. Throwing of the horseshoe is via the tried and tested method of sliding your finger up the screen and this works very effectively, in addition the accelerometer is used to affect the flight of the horseshoe and wrap it round the pole.
After a few games of horseshoe you’ll begin to see that using the accelerometer is required esp. if you are playing in tournament mode where each opponent will get progressively more and more accurate with their shots.
Each round can take a significant amount of time to play as you race your opponent to 40 points but if you enjoy the challenge and the subtleties of the game that won’t worry you. Being able to win the tournament on my first attempt though suggests that the difficulty level may be set a little low for some.
The final version of Horseshoe Pro is Arcade Toss which brings the games indoors and adds a bit of glamor to the game with the addition of bright lights, lazers and bonus points. Ultimately the game is still the same old throwing a bent lump of iron around a stick but the change is nice and the addition of two further targets mixes things up and will challenge you finger flicking skills.
At the end of every game you’ll get the opportunity to upload your score to the online servers to see how you compare globally but with the only a local multiplayer option Skyworks missed an opportunity here to make a good game a great game.
That being said I’m still coming back to the game for a quick go and that has to be a sign that they’ve got something right.

Tickle Monster: Tickle me till you can tickle no more!

I searched for “Tickle” in the app store before I began writing this review and I wasn’t surprised to see more than 7 apps based on tickling! iPhone developers have always been giving us some unusual and never thought of apps in the entertainment category of App Store.
Tickle Monster is a very basic app which displays a green color Monster who gets tickled no matter where you touch. The Monster jiggles, joggles, giggles, wiggles and twitches with a simple touch. Though the developer strictly warns not to shake the monster, you might end up doing that the very first time you open the app. When you shake the monster it feels like you are actually shaking a real ****!
Use Tickle Monster after a tiring day or use it to amuse your kid or gift it to your girl/boy friend, it will never let you down with it’s cute and adorable laughter.
*A research by Tickle Monster Health Organization (TMHO) states if you use this app twice daily it will improve your sense of humor and keep you healthy!
Tickle Monster is a welcome addition to the ever growing tickle fantasy.

This Application solves perhaps the biggest problem with currency converters for Apple’s touch platform, Which interface to use. Having used my fair share of unit converters I know this is very important because get it wrong and you leave the user infuriated with an inefficient and difficult application and potentially out of pocket too which is bad when your applications now connect with people on a closer level than say a computer. CurCon gives you a choice of 3 interfaces: Classic scrolling wheel (slot machine style), Simple two option layout and multi currency layout all of which suit a spectrum of users from visitor to pastures new right up to corporate tycoon working in multiple currencies, all in one application.
What is consistent through the interfaces is a good keypad tailored for single handed use and tailored it is as it works very well but perhaps could do with an option for left handed as the go and backspace buttons are on the right of the screen. My favourite thing about this app is the currency list, appearing in the simple and multi layouts, which very well thought out with a search box at the top that filters through entries and sorting options at the bottom to change the order of the extensive list by currency name, code and last used. These features balance out the large amount of information you need to work through which is where many other apps have gone wrong but for the sake of completeness I would also like to see an address book style index, reflecting the left handed option if possible.
Graphics as a whole is generally fine but with the bar set so high by other apps I can recommend further polish.
My only gripe other than the fact I managed to make it crash from fiddling around with it too fast, is that I can’t find the source of where the application downloads it’s rates which could be a problem for professionals needing something specific. Could a selectable source be in the pipeline? I hope so.
