The App Store has given us many addicting games, but some games have tempted us to throw our iPhone in frustration to clear levels or achieve high scores. My first experience with the “frustrating” genre in the App Store was with ‘The Impossible Game’ $0.99, repetitiveness has been the key aspect in such games and it works. If you’re a fan of “impossible” games then some games worth giving a try are Stupidness 2 [FREE], Geometry Dash Lite [FREE] and IMPOSSIBLE ROAD [$1.99].

The game responsible for giving a new meaning to the word “impossible” was Flappy Bird. The developer behind the hugely popular game ultimately removed the game from the App Store citing reasons of the game being too “addictive”. However, this time the developer is back with yet another frustratingly impossible game called Swing Copters.

If Flappy Bird wasn’t high enough on the scale of difficulty, with Swing Copters the developer is all set to achieve a new record. The concept of the game is similar to its predecessor. You control a bird wearing a “copter” hat by tapping on the screen to change its direction. As you attempt to climb vertically there are obstacles in place to kill the birds dream to fly in an instant. Each time you fail and retry the background of the game changes slightly, and that’s exactly what you get in this game.

Attempting to get high score and testing your patience before you are tempted to throw your iPhone seem to be the only two objectives of this game. There is not much variety in the gameplay. The success of this game can be credited to its ruthless difficulty level which has become a point of reference in proving ones gaming prowess or just settling an argument in the favour of the one who has higher score!

I have to admit I’ve never been inclined towards such <del>simple</del> impossible games. However, Swing Copters successfully manages to ignite that feeling of giving it a ‘one more try’.

We have just one advise for the developer, if possible please have some mercy and at least let us reach 10 points, at the time of writing this review I had to settle with just 2 points.

What’s your high score in Swing Copters for iPhone and iPad? Have you discovered any tips or tricks to gain high score? Let us know what you think about the game in the comments below.

The Impossible Game Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

You know what it’s like when you pop open a can of Pringles (other potato chips are available), and you just can’t put them down, well get ready for the gaming equivalent in The Impossible Game.

If you’ve got an Xbox you may already be familiar with this title as it’s been creating a storm on there for a while already. As with most addictive games the premise is very simple, you control a red block and the one control you have is to tap the screen to make it jump. And jump is something you’ll need to do frequently as obstacle after obstacle constantly heads towards you. You can tap anywhere on the screen and while a tap will create a small jump a tap and hold will make you jump a little further.

What has been integrated well with the game is the music and this game more than any other requires you to have the sound turned on and load as the beat of the music will help you time your leaps.

The game play is thick and fast and you will also die, if a little red box can die, multiple times as you attempt to complete the game. You can complete the game using Practice mode where a flag will be placed allowing you to re-start from that point rather than from the beginning but where’s the fun in that! While the game begins with simple jumps over obstacles you will soon find yourself attempting to jump your little square up and down steps of floating blocks which will more than likely be the cause of many deaths.

Additionally there are four achievements that you can go after although you will more than likely complete them in the process of completing the game anyway so don’t add much extra value to the game. Your progress can be tracked on the stats page and you can also post it to Twitter and/or Facebook but there is no multi-player option here, it’s purely a single player addiction!

While you can track your progress there are no leader boards showing your best times or fewest jumps and this would have definitely been a nice addition and would add additional replay value once you do inevitability complete the game.

The game is relatively short and if you get your timing right you could have it completed in under an hour, but even if you do complete it that quickly it will be 99c well spent. The Impossible Game is an addictive game let down by its shortness.

The Good

Takes addictiveness to another level

And difficulty!

The simplest of controls

Infectious music

The Not So Good

Only 1 level

No leader boards
