David Wong even showed us a way to dual boot an iPhone with both iPhone OS (as it was then) and Android!
Most people still tended to agree, though, that overall iOS was still a better experience on iPhone than Android. Not withstanding the few features that simply didn’t work in those early hacks.
But from a purely geekish point of view it was incredibly cool, and slightly funny, to watch competing companies OS booting on each other’s hardware.
Today the same hacker has returned with a much more mature version of his hack. One that is all bundled up in an auto-installer on Cydia.
So, if you want to try out Android, but don’t want to buy Android handset, and perhaps have an iPhone 2G or 3G lying around. Well, your luck is in!
Of course you might have one of those lying around because you have a new shiny 3GS or iPhone 4. In which case make it a treat for your ageing iPhone to try out a new experience for itself for a while! Because it’s one thing that your 3G and 2G can do, that your iPhone 4 or 3GS can’t. Because the hack doesn’t work for those‚ yet.
So if you want to try out Android what you need is this..
If you are a masochist then there is also a manual step-by-step guide, as well as info on the quick method, here.
Do let us know how it went for you if you choose to try this. We’d love to hear stories in the comments.
