The Ultimate Gold iPad. Only $269,000!

In a week when an upmarket hotel in Abu Dabi announced a Gold Vending Machine in its lobby, which accepts cash amounts from $50 and up, and spits out an appropriately sized Gold Ingot. This story seems really appropriate.

UK designer, Simon Hughes, who caters to the uber rich has announced his latest insanely expensive creation. The Solid Gold iPad “Supreme Edition”. It is Wi-Fi and 3G capable, of course. Sports 64GB of Memory, naturally! But it also has a diamond encrusted Apple logo, with 53 gems making up an impressive 22 carats of chic on the Tablet’s back.

He has taken a leaf out of Apple’s manufacturing book and made the iPad’s case from solid pieces of 22ct gold, which weigh in at 2.1kgs. Making the “Ultimate iPad” slightly heavier than the stock models.

“A magnificent combination of top-of-the-industry technology and unrivalled craftsmanship was involved in creating this masterpiece”, is how the creation is described on Hughes’ website.

Simon will only make 10 units of the exclusive iPad.

I expect the likes of P.Diddy and Donald Trump, who have no taste whatsoever, to be beating down his door for one of these. Although they don’t need to, as he’ll deliver for free! Assuming your card is good for the payment!

Simon previously made the world’s most expensive iPhone, which is reputedly worth more than $4M NZ dollars.

I think I’d rather buy 300 top of the line stock iPad’s, and make a touch video wall in my apartment for $300,000. But that’s just me. I’d use the change to buy apps!

Would you buy something like this? If you would why are you reading this news article and not out driving your Bugatti Veyron? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
