RastaFun Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

One of my favorite bands is a cover band named Dread Zeppelin. They play Led Zeppelin songs in a reggae style and with RastaFun you get another cover version, this time it’s a cover version of the game Doodle Jump, again with a reggae style!

So I have to assume that everyone reading this know’s what Doodle Jump is, if you don’t you may as well stop reading now to be honest, it’s one of the most simple, addictive and popular games in the App Store and as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery Doodle Jump is obviously very well loved.

With RastaFun you take control of a little pixelated Rastafarian as he attempts to climb as high as he can leaping from cloud to cloud up the iPhone/iPod Touch screen using the accelerometer to direct him.

Just as in Doodle Jump there are numerous objects that you can pick up on your way up high, from muffins and coffee beans to pepper pots and Rastafarian colored balloons they all help you fly higher and higher to reach your highest score.

There are also VooDoo Dolls that you’ll need to avoid otherwise they will render your game over immediately should you hit them so it’s important to keep alert regardless of how high you get.

While you play the game you are entertained by some cool reggae grooves and the this along with the relatively simple graphics do create a fun reggae theme to the game.

While there are no leader boards either locally or online your best score is tracked so you’ll always know what you have to try to beat. And while RastaFun’s inspiration offers you the ability to show off and compare your high scores via Facebook and Twitter all you can do via RastaFun is send your friends an email with a link to the game.

Ultimately RastaFun is not going to replace as your regular Doodle Jump fix, however at just 99 cents it’s an entertaining distraction and is fun while it lasts.

Pros

Reggae themed fun

More jumping, less doodling

Cons

One dimensional

No leader boards

Email challenges only
