T3 Names iPad Gadget of The Year

No, a Terminator has not endorsed Apple’s tablet computer, it’s the “prestigious” awards ceremony held in London last night, where the votes of 750,000 readers and an expert panel are used to determine technology awards.

The iPad beat its own slightly younger sibling (the iPhone 4) out of the top spot to win the overall “Gadget of the Year” category. As well as beating the HTC Desire, Sky+ HD, Microsoft’s XBox Kinect and the Toshiba Cell TV to take the “Innovation of the Year” award as well.

The second award was not as easily won as the first. But in the end the overwhelming vote from the buying public, who felt the device could connect anyone to the modern online world, pushed the decision through against a split panel of experts.

The iPhone 4, possibly compromised in many people’s eyes because of Antennagate didn’t manage to take the “Phone of the Year” award, losing out to the HTC Desire there.

The iPhone 4 did manage to pick up the “Commuter Gadget of the Year” Award though. How should HTC and Apple view that?

Apple’s almost clean sweep continued as it picked up “Retailer of the Year”, which is probably well deserved. And the lowly MacBook (remember those?) picked up “Computer of the Year”.

All in all a good night for Apple. Google picked up App of the Year award, introduced this year, for their Google Maps Navigation app.

Any thoughts on these awards? Let us know in the comments…

hmm, iPad is totally a cool and really a corker of a tablet!!!
I love my iPad. It has almost completely replaced my personal computer. For the things I do… It is perfect! Much nicer than any CPU I have ever owned. For work, all my other computers would do a lot of things I would never use it for, and do it painfully in the process (slow, buggy, etc.). When you get down to what you do most on you personal computer… the iPad does almost all of the things an average user needs, and with a much much nicer U/I. Easy of use, fast, and efficient. The other computer manufacturers could learn a thing or two from this, but even if they do… they will probably screw-up the one they come out with by adding all the crap back in again. For entertainment, now with one of the top features of iPad — movie watching, Im totally sucked in enjoying kinds of videos and movies with iPad, though some times need in the help of iPad video converter from iFunia for lack of flash support. Ugggggg!!!!

It’s deserved to worth this award!!!
