Review Pirate Roulette

Arggghhh Shiver me timbers it’s Pirate Roulette

Pirate roulette is a full 3-D “ini mini miny mo” type fun application for iPod / iPhone. You have a cute pirate sitting on top of rum barrel with 24 holes on the sides. Test your luck by putting a sword into one of the holes to make the pirate fly off the rum barrel. Basically each hole has equal chance except for ones with some signs that make chances higher or lower in the next turn. It’s a great toy for all age groups

For those of you of a certain age the concept of pop-up pirate will be a common one, and now you can re-live the fun of randomly stabbing a pirate on your iPhone/iPod Touch. For those of you who haven’t played the original I’ll continue.

Pirate Roulette loads with a foreboding skull and crossbones, however those of you with a nervous disposition need not worry as you’ll be greeted with some jolly music and the image of a cartoon pirate, did someone say Lego pirate?, as soon as you click on the start button.

At this point you are thrown directly into the game and the game couldn’t be any easier. This is a two player game and the players take it in turns to simply rotate the barrel housed pirate and select a slot to thrust your sword into.

The graphics are clear and simple and randomly throughout the game animations will appear to add a degree of amusement. As the players continue to stab the barrel the Lego looking pirate with quiver and shake until finally with one thrust too many the plastic pirate will be ejected, jack-in-the-box style, to signify the winner.

The game really is that simple with the only options being to turn on/off the sound/music. If the developers are reading this perhaps they could think about adding extra pirates, different barrels or even the ability to add a picture of your own face to the pirate in a future update, that would certainly keep the fun going longer.

So while the game is relatively simply to play and while no skill is required it can be a fun distraction for a few moments. An alternative use of Pirate Roulette would be as a way to decide who takes the trash out or whose turn it is to do the dishes. At $0.99 it could be a cheap why to sort out all those arguments.
