Photosynth for iPhone and iPad 2 Capture and Share Panoramas

Photosynth Panorama Photo iPhone

Photosynth Panorama Photo iPhoneIf you enjoy taking panoramic photographs then Photosynth for iPhone and iPad 2 from Microsoft is a great app for you to checkout. It not only allows you to capture panoramas but also share them on Facebook, Photosynth.net, and Bing Maps.

The user interface is fairly simple. To create a new panorama you just take photos in proper sequence by moving your device up, down, left and right. The app features three capture modes which include Auto capture, Manual capture, and Can’t capture. Photosynth uses advanced image tracking to automatically capture new images as you move your device. Sometimes, the app will prompt you to take the photo manually if it can’t take the image automatically. Finally, if both methods fail you’ll get ‘can’t capture’ warning and in that case you just aim the device at the last image and then repeat the process.

Photosynth for iPhoneOnce you are happy with the shots you’ve taken just tap ‘done’ and then the app will stitch your photos together into a beautiful panorama that you just created on your iPhone. While testing the app we found that the final result didn’t always have perfect ‘stitches’ one could easily make out that the photos were not aligned perfectly. Obviously, the results will vary for each user as the more stable your hand is while taking the images the more perfectly aligned panorama you’ll get.

The app automatically stores the panoramas on your devices’ photo library and within the app itself. One of our first experiences with panorama on iPhone was with Pangea VR, which is a great utility to view interactive panoramas. With Photosynth now you can create your own 360° photos. The app is available for free from the App Store. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
