Paranormal Agency HD [rating: 4/5]
It appears that hidden object style games are very popular on the iPhone/iPod Touch so it’s no surprise to see them coming up specifically for the iPad and the latest one is Paranormal Agency HD an upgrade from the non-HD version that was released earlier for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Paranormal Agency HD uses a similar premise to earlier similar titles where the hidden object part of the game is written into a story line in this case a supernatural story where you take the part of Detective Heather Mills who has special abilities with ESP and the ability to see things from beyond the grave.
The story is pretty good and keeps things moving along although it has to be said that things are a little wordy and with things having to be read rather than spoken to you some players my find it a little to easy to skip the dialogue completely and miss the interesting storyline.
The hidden object part of the game is what you would expect from an iPad title. Large glossy pictures with lots of details. The 50+ levels are split across five different variety of challenges and so while ultimately you are searching for a given list of objects there is a nice twist to the levels that keeps things interesting. These include finding the hidden objects based on a silhouette of their image while others merely from their name.
You can also play the game with or without a timer to make for a more or less relaxed game play. As Heather Mills progresses through the story you will move to a variety of different locations two and although there is some repetitiveness there is always a new challenge to be had.
Finding items is as simple as touching them on the screen and you also have a limited number of hints that you can use to help you out of any tricky situations. You can also build the hints back up by finding the question marks that are also hidden in each picture. The hints weren’t required too often though.
More fun is added to the game by the inclusion of achievements although it has to be said that they are only locally stored so you won’t be comparing your achievements and scores with other players. You can boast of your Paranormal Agency HD though via Facebook should you feel the need at the end of each puzzle.
The game is a lot of fun and the 50+ levels provides a great deal of value. If you are a hidden objects game fan then this will be $5 well spent and if you haven’t tried one before then you can’t go far wrong with this engaging title.
