San Mateo, California – There’s a new app for parents and children on the iPhone scene. iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users can now find the free Okenko Books Reader on iTunes in the Books section, Android phone users can download the app in the Android Market.
The app comes with one free story, which is “Lindy Lee Loves Pink” by Jo S. Kittinger and Sonya Hallett. Additional titles available with subscription include a rhyming story titled “David Drew Likes Blue”, a hilarious book called “Sip’n'Cup Go on Vacation”, and stories about children’s everyday adventures “Andie Plays Pretend” and “Mike Rides His Bike to School”, and more coming every fortnight.
Those new stories and more are available through the Okenko Books subscription service available at Okenko Books website, which is based on micro-payments through PayPal. Under the subscription service, a new children’s book is downloaded to the device every two weeks. A subscription can have up to five devices registered, and the stories will stay in the Okenko Books app so parents and kids can access them offline and even after their subscription ends.
The aim of Okenko Books is to provide children and parents with quality books that entertain, teach and inspire, and the publisher strives to remain true to the book medium, even as that medium is transferred to a high-tech gadgets like smart phones and tablets.
Co-founder Jitka Adeleke says, “Our intention is to stay as close to the book medium as possible, so we do not offer any distracting interactive features and games. We keep things simple: just text and pictures. Our book-apps must be read, either by a budding reader, parent, older sibling or friend.”
The books offered through the Okenko Books subscription service are tailored for kids 4-8 years old and they are unique, and they cannot be found anywhere else. The publisher produces all-new books that have never been released in any other format, written by published and promising, first time authors as well and illustrated by talented illustrators from all over the world.
