MultiPong for iPad [rating: 5/5]

I was introduced to gaming many, many years ago with a Binatone TV Gaming system that allowed my brothers and I to fight over a handful of pixels on the TV screen instead of over Subbuteo, draughts or who gets to eat the last Jammy Dodger.

Where Pong of the 80’s was a simple 2 tone game of ‘tennis’ or ‘squash’, MultiPong for iPad is a gorgeous, eye popping single or multi-player fight for survival where the battle is played over a small stainless steel ball.

As the name suggests the game is for up to 1 to 4 players, all on a single iPad, which makes it a great game to show off the iPad’s capabilities to friends and family.

The two player mode is where the game excels, unlike the basic two games in the old school original version MultiPong for iPad provides 5 variations Pong in the form of Classic, Flash, Crazy, Baby and Death Ball.

All five variations offer something a little different, but my favorites are Crazy and Death-ball where the action just keeps getting more and more frantic whether it’s the multitude of bonuses or the multitude of balls, there is always something going on.

The aforementioned bonuses are another thing that makes this different from the original Pong. Across the various game modes these bonus discs appear randomly on screen enabling the standard extra lives and longer/shorter paddles to the more extreme items such as time warp and gravity.

The physics of the game work great as do the controls which are as simple dragging your finger from side to side along whichever side of the screen is yours. Even when four players are playing things don’t get crowded which is what makes this game so much fun.

If you want to add extra oomph to the graphics you can add additional skins for 99 cents per skin, although to be honest I didn’t feel the need to buy them for the game isn’t all about the graphics, it’s all about the game play and simplicity.

Additional value is added via the local leader boards across all the game modes, it would be nice if these were global leader boards but that’s not the case at present.

If you want a simple game of pong that will keep both you and your friends entertained, MultiPong for iPad is the game for you.
