Limera1n Jailbreak for iOS 4.1 Released. Greenpois0n delayed?

The iOS 4.1 jailbreak scene in the last one week has drawn a lot of media attention. The jailbreaking team had been posting teaser videos and updates about SHAtter exploit for iOS which lead to an increase in anticipation for all those who have been wanting to jailbreak their iOS devices using Greenpois0n.

Greenpois0n, the jailbreak tool developed by The Chronic Dev Team was scheduled to be released tomorrow (10/10/10) however, Geohot has gone ahead and released the Limera1n jailbreak tool which jailbreaks iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G running iOS 4.0, 4.1 and future versions too.

limera1n is unpatchable
untethered thanks to jailbreakme star comex
released today to get chronicdev to do the right thing
brought to you by geohot
Mac and Linux coming soon
follow the instructions in the box, sadly limera1n isn’t one click
that’s the price of unpatchability
as usual, donations appreciated but not required
still in beta, pardon my ragged edges
zero pictures of my face

The current version of Limera1n appears to have some known issues:

3GS new bootrom is broken, fix pending
some people need to restart to get the Cydia icon to show up after installing
some people still don’t have windows
beta iOS versions aren’t supported

Initially the Dev Team criticized Geohot for using their exploit and releasing his version of the jailbreak first however, after a few moments they decided to get “geohot’s exploit implemented and release greenpois0n tomorrow, cleaning up the mess he made.”

Comex and p0sixninja in their recent Twitter updates suggested that this implementation could take more time than expected which could delay Greenpois0n’s release. You can visit the official website for Limera1n to learn more.

Have you used Limera1n to jailbreak your device? Did it work for you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Worked on my 3GS iOS 4.1 like a dream. You gotta run and update all your Cydia files and then you’ll be able to see the proper icon for both LimeRa1n and Cydia.

    Thanks GeoHot!

It appears to be working, but the Cydia icon doesn’t show up on my iTouch even after multiple restarts.

It does work a treat. I had to restart iPhone to get the icons to show properly. However geohot is an ass so as soon as greenpois0n IS released I will be doing a fresh install and using that instead!
