Rating: ★★★★☆

Slathering yourself with deet lotion is passé SonicBOOM presents us with Gun turrets, Stun towers and Lasers to smash mutant bugs in Kill All Bugs for iPhone/iPod touch!

Kill All Bugs is a tower defense game with 21 levels, and survival mode. It pays tribute to B-movies and delivers real insect AI. Players are dropped into a frenzied battle to save humanity from mutant bugs. Construct a gauntlet to keep insects at bay, with access to a slew of heavy weapons, high tech defenses and air strikes.

For those who don’t know, Tower Defense (TD) genre is is a subgenre of real-time strategy games. The main objective is to destroy and avoid enemies crossing the map by building towers which kill the enemies as they pass in close proximity. Placing the towers on the right spot and upgrading wisely is the main strategy involved.

Kill All Bugs is a hybrid of traditional Tower Defense games and modern real-time strategy games, where you face mutant bugs trying to overtake your city. The graphics are intentionally pixelated and background music is perfect to give the game a complete B-movies theme.

The game has 21 Missions to conquer and 3 Survival Modes (Easy, Normal and Hard) Each mission starts with a brief, then you are taken to the city with an alarming sound and the bugs start appearing on the city map.

Controls are very intuitive, entire map is divided into square grids and you can build the defenses by simply tapping on the map then selecting the type of defense depending on the available finances. Tower upgrades are always an integral part of a TD game, strangely Kill All Bugs does not feature any tower upgrades. Some of the defenses include Gun Turrets, Stun Tower, Power Generator and laser fence, you can use these to shoot, burn or wipe out all the creepy bugs. As you advance in the game you earn more money to buy defenses and as airstrike is made available you can call in the air force to raid the entire map with bombs.

Bugs can crawl in any direction on the map which makes the game quite unpredictable and if any of your defense blocks the path they can destroy it in one instance without any resistance. Every mission introduces new maps and sometimes offer very limited space to put your defenses in place, thus make you heavily rely on airstrike or alternate game strategy.

Kill All Bugs is an impressive Tower Defense game which offers hours of gameplay, clever strategy and the ultimate satisfaction of Killing All Bugs!

Nice review Ravin. Its true what you say bout the upgrades, but in a way its something i dont miss in a TD game anyway. Usually just sit there tapping the upgrade button until the tower is maxed. Plus the benefit of unlocking new defense patterns is an alternative to upgrades. Its a good way to increase firepower at no extra cost. Also requires a bit of extra forward planning, which i like!
