On Tuesday, German site iphone-ticker.de reported that T-Mobile Germany is now distributing nano-SIM to retailers, possibly for the announcement and release date of iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 is currently thought to be the only smartphone using the nano-SIM standard, and has been rumored earlier in the year to shrink down to accommodate the rumored slimmer profile of the iPhone 5.

The report also indicates that the nano-SIMS will be used for the “latest generation of smartphones”, expected to arrive in the near future. In late July, European carriers were reported to be stocking the new nano-SIMs in preparation of the iPhone 5 and this reiterates these claims that the carriers were in fact of possession of such SIMs.

The carriers were also rumored to have been working in tandem with Apple to test the new nano-SIMs on next gen devices. The iPhone 5 is expected to be announced on September 12th and to go on sale on September 21st. It is expected to be released alongside a new iPad Mini and the public version of iOS 6.
