Sometimes it’s the most simplest of games that can prove to be winners and they don’t come much simpler than Spot the Difference. This classic puzzler from newspapers, magazines, comics and puzzles books has now made it to the 21st century in the form of an game for the iPhone/iPod Touch.
The fact that this app is on the iPhone is the only 21st century feature of this game as it sticks with the standard function of simply comparing too seemingly identical pictures for a set amount of differences. The pictures used are of the highest quality and cover many different styles, from animals and people to landscapes and locations the range of pictures is wide and varied, in short there is something for everyone.
Starting the game throws you in with an easy level and 6 differences to find. You’ll need quite a keen eye to find the changes as even on the easy levels the differences can be quite subtle. Once you’ve found a difference a simple tap of the screen will circle it, presuming you are right of course, and your counter will drop by one until you’ve found all the differences. If, however, you are wrong your ignorance will be greeted with a BUZZ, an on-screen cross and a picture shake. Unfortunately I don’t think the buzzer, cross, shake combination is big enough of a penalty as after the initial couple of wrong guesses it’s nothing more than an annoyance and therefore for those people who just want to just tap the screen randomly to find the changes can do so without comeuppance. A 10 second penalty for each failed guess would be a much more appropriate punishment.
So as a game of choice for the serious gamer Spot the Difference is not going to provide a significant challenge but as a quick brain teaser Spot the Difference certainly hits the spot.
The Not So Good
