THE GAME OF LIFE Classic Edition [rating: 4.5/5]

There are some games that define a childhood and for me it was Game of Life. I’m sure it wasn’t the first board game our family owned but it was the first one that I can remember sitting round the table as a family and playing for a good couple of hours and so it was with great anticipation that I downloaded the iPhone version of this classic board game to put it through its paces.

Stay single or say I do. Retire rich or lose it all. Anything can happen in THE GAME OF LIFE!

THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS IN THE GAME OF LIFE! Play it safe and go to college, get married and start a family. Live on the edge and indulge yourself in lavish luxuries and high-stake investments. Watch your destiny unfold with every spin of LIFE’S wheel! Navigate through a beautiful 3D environment of winding roads and lush landscapes.

For those of you who haven’t played this game the aim is this, the board represents life and as you progress around it you have to make decisions that impact your life, and more importantly your earning power. From college and careers, investments and property to marriage, children and family all the main ingredients of life are here. If you have played the game before then you’ll be pleased to know that not only has the game not changed but it is also perfectly recreated in this form too.

The board and pieces look wonderful in their 3D graphic form and even more importantly the spinner not only looks like it does in the game but you also get to spin it as you do in the real game. The spinner also makes the same clicking sounds as it does in real life and the other incidental sounds and background music fit in well too.

Spinning the spinner controls how many spaces you move around the board and as you do you’ll land on squares that make life changing decisions for you like the birth of a child or purchasing a rare piece of art. Your playing piece is a car and as it drives around the board you will also reach decision making squares where you will need to take decisions such as whether you want to go to college or head straight into the world or work. Each decision you make will have there pro’s and con’s which can impact your money making potential and as the winner of the game is the one with the most money at the end you must choose wisely.

The game can be played alone against 1-3 computer controlled characters or up to four people can play on a single iPhone/iPod Touch using the pass and play method and while playing on your own is good, playing the multi-player version makes things much more fun and adds an extra degree of playability to the game.

This is the fifth board game conversion from EA with Scrabble, Monopoly, Yahtzee and Trivial Pursuit having already been converted before, if you liked any of those or if you especially like the Game of Life board game then this is definitely $5 well spent. The great thing about Game of Life is that it’s a game for the whole family and would be perfect for those long car journeys where the family needs to be entertained.

Game of Life, a classic conversion of a classic board game.

I remember this game – I think I played it a couple times as a kid too. I really enjoyed board games – playing as a child and also playing with my own kids. I'm really happy to see these games coming to the iphone. Look for Monopoly too!
