Mashable recently reported that Facebook may release an iPad compatible version of its app during Apple’s iOS 5 and iPhone 5 release date announcement event. Facebook has had an iPhone app since 2008 and now it seems that the social networking giant might be ready to release iPad compatible version of the app.

Facebook will launch its long-awaited iPad app at Apple’s iPhone 5 launch event on Oct. 4, Mashable has learned. In addition to the iPad app, Facebook is also expected to release a revamped version of its iPhone app and may unveil an HTML5-based mobile app marketplace.

This news comes shortly after a Facebook developer quit over concerns of an iPad application he had been working on for months did not go live. There have also been reports that Facebook and Apple were on negotiating terms of integrating Facebook into iOS similar to Twitter, but after several disagreements, the deal fell through.

Facebook users have long been awaiting an iPad compatible application, currently using a mixture third party Facebook applications, the web, and the iPhone application.

Apple is expected to hold a media event on October 4th, where the company is widely believed to unveil the iPhone 5 and release iOS 5. An iPad Facebook application is long overdue and it is likely to be made available for users after the new profile changes.
