Some people, especially those around my age, have usually given up on finding new music and instead just listen to their age old favorites. This is all well and good and certainly keeps the old bands in business but there is a surprisingly lot of good new and alternative music to those bands. It’s just finding them that’s not always easy.
Aiming to resolve that problem is new app Discovr with its search and discover tool. The app is simple to use and will soon put you in touch with new bands and artists that you can listen to directly in the App thanks to it’s integration with YouTube.
The launch page is clean, clear and simple with just a search box to enter the name or artist that you wish to start with, enter the name and press search on the keyboard.
You will then be taken to the next page which places the searched for band in the center of the page with like minded bands and artists linked to them.
From here you have four options. You can shake your iPad to start over, double tap any of the artists to find out more about the band, single tap an artist to expand the similar artists to them or view your favorites.
Single tapping an artist will add more band/ artists to the screen and you can carry on doing this until you find the new music you are looking for. Sometimes the map will go beyond the screen and you can then scroll up, down, left and right to view everything.
Once you see an artist you wish to discover more about a double tap will take you into their more info page and this includes a brief biography, links to blogs, reviews and direct links to the artist on MySpace, Last.fm, iTunes and Amazon.
My favorite feature on this page though is the YouTube integration which brings in a variety of videos related to that artist that you can play directly in the page or make full screen.
Any artist that you like has the option to add to a list of favorites, share on Facebook, Twitter or via email. Overall I’ve had great fun using Discovr and at just $2.99 would recommend this to any music lover out there.
