Catacrok for iPhone A Strategy Based Puzzle Game

Catacrok [rating: 2.5/5]

Catacrok by Caligola Games is a physics game that needs strategy and skill to complete the 60 levels of puzzle. When you start the game there is a tutorial you can follow to get an idea of what you need to do to play the game. The main point is that you need to destroy all the blue blocks without destroying any red ones by knocking them off a platform.

All these blocks are on the platforms around the screen. You have a ball shape in the centre and if you press and hold it, it will show an arrow. When you see the arrow you need to aim it at the blocks to knock them over. Clear the requested amont and then move on to the next level. If you knock any red ones down that amount will be deducted off your blue total so it is important to try and knock as little as possible off.

The platforms can be made of different surfaces and each surface will react differently. For example the grass platform will make the blocks move a lot slower than the ice platform so these are other things to consider before making your move.

You can also control an heavier touch or a lighter touch by the size of your ball. If you want to give a great big heavy push you need to make the ball as big as possible. The force then from it will knock more blocks off the platform.

You can play any level at any time you just scroll through each screen to choose the one you want to play. There doesn’t seem to be any where within the game that tells you what level you are up to as you work through them so I am presuming you just have to remember what part you are up to. It might have been a better idea to have some levels locked that need to be unlocked before you  can play them.

The graphics are quite straight forward and simple which is all that it really needs to play, too much fuss within the game would spoil it and be off putting. There are no sounds to the game at all which felt really strange to play with out. I think it needs some sort of background noise or music just to break the silence up a bit.

There is nothing within the game to make you want to play again and again. No leader boards or score boards. It would be good with some form of online score integration to make gamers want to come back again to play and improve their score and compete with their friends.

Pros

  • 60 levels each getting harder

Cons

  • No music or sounds
  • No score boards/online integration
