Burn the Rope for iPhone A Red Hot Game that Entertains and Challenges

Burn the Rope [rating: 4.5/5]

Burn the Rope iPhoneAnother puzzle game enters the App Store and not to confused with ‘Cut the Rope’ this is ‘Burn the Rope’ and is not related to the former. It’s a puzzle game with a simple concept, easy controls and many levels so this should all add up to a great game right? Well let’s see!

The premise is simple, each level has a different configuration of a rope in a range of adhoc and picture based shapes and the task is to burn as much of the rope as you can with a single flame.

Just like with real flames, as any pyromaniac will know, flames burn fastest upwards so to ensure the flame doesn’t go out you need to rotate your phone so that the rope is always facing up with the flame at the bottom of it.

This is all relatively simple to begin with across the first few levels which consists of simple rope structures such as circles, a bat and a ladder. However, as you progress keeping the flame alive gets more and more challenging as when the ropes splits into two so does the flame and you are tasked with keeping alive multiple flames that are heading in different directions.

This all adds to the fun of course and to the challenge of burning 100% of the rope and the subsequent gold medal that comes with it. Completing the level with rope remaining will result in a lesser medal and no medal at all will prevent you from moving on to the next level.

Burn the Rope for iPhoneThere are 96 levels in total at present with the developers promising more to come but while the levels remain relatively simple in the first area over the game named the Firepit, progression to the Wood Pile and onwards introduces new challenges to your pyromania.

These challenges come in the form of insects that crawl along the rope and these can be simply burnt for the pleasure of it or based on the color of the insect it will change the color of the flame allowing you to burn rope of the same color. This makes the game even more challenging and fun also.

Another feature I like are the way that the games options are enabled, specifically the choice of flame type. There are 4 flame types to choose from, the original naked flame, a fuse like flame, smouldering smoke and a bright star, however to change from the original naked flame you need to perform a task such as emailing a friend, rating the game in the App Store or Liking the game on Facebook. This is a nice change and makes them all attainable.

Leader boards and 30 achievements are included via Game Center integration which adds even more value to the 96 levels that are already included.

The only downside that I can find is that on the levels where the rope is color coded it’s sometimes difficult to distinguish between them, especially for those of us who are colorblind.

At 99 cents I can certainly recommend adding this challenging puzzle game to your collection, as it looks great and will keep you occupied for hours.
