Bella Boo Rating:
It’s amazing that with the number of games in the app store that developers can continue to come up with new ideas, but while they do I’ll be more than happy to review them for you and this time it’s Bella Boo by Half Fast Games. Bella Boo is a Zombie Fairy and it’s your task to help her defeat the many monsters who are attempting to invade Bella’s land.
Defeating the many monsters that you’ll face is done by wrapping a circle around them from the trail that Bella Boo leaves behind her as you fly around the screen. The more you capture the more points you get and achievements will be unlocked.
It’s always good to have choices and you have three ways to control Bella. There is a virtual joystick which is placed in the bottom left corner of the screen and it works well and is accurate too, then there is the touch option which will be familiar for most iPhone/iPod touch owners where Bella will follow your finger as you drag it around the screen, unfortunately I found that this meant that my own hand blocked my view of the screen. The final control option it tilt mode where the accelerometer will control the direction that Bella travels in. For me this was the least usable control method.
As you start the game there will be just a couple of different monsters out to get you but as you progress you’ll unlock bigger and better monsters that will attack you too. You start off with 20 health points and with each attack that you sustain it will diminish. Let it get to zero and it’ll will be game over although with the auto checkpoint options you won’t find yourself having to start from the beginning if you don’t want to.
Some zombie’s will grab you you’ll have to shake it off by shaking your iPhone while the eyeballs will follow you around shooting lasers at you in an attempt to take your life. Then there will be ghosts and flaming skulls to contend not to mention the witches and killer bees! Each of monsters will do different amounts of damage but killing the more aggressive monsters will also reward you with more points.
The action becomes more and more intense but help is at hands in various power-ups that appear as you kill the monsters. Speed boosts will enable you to speed around the monsters quicker while you can also slow the monsters down giving you an equal advantage to the speed boost, you can also increase the length of your trail and this enables you to create bigger loops to grab and kill larger numbers of creatures.
There is only a single environment but it looks spooky enough as are the music and sound effects that accompany you on your fight. While there is no multi-player options the inclusion of 45 achievements via the Open Feint network adds extra value to the game and allows you to show off your success to your friends.
At $1.99 some people may expect more from a title but it’s still a fun game and with three difficulty levels and achievements Bella Boo is a lot of ghastly fun.
- Fast monstrous action
- Open Feint Integration
- Multiple control options
The Not So Good
