According to a new report published by The Korea Herald Apple Inc. could be in negotiation with Samsung in order to incorporate their AMOLED display technology into the iPad 3.

Apple is reportedly looking to drop LCDs and use an AMOLED display in its next gen iPad. This clearly suggests that the company is looking into using better display technology for its hugely popular tablet computer.

Apple Inc’s chief operating officer Tim Cook discussed adopting Samsung’s AMOLED display technology for tablet PCs during his recent visit to South Korea, industry sources said.

“Apple wants to tap into Samsung’s AMOLED technology for an upgraded version of the iPad2, considered as many as the iPad3 that is likely to be launched toward the end of this year,” a source told The Korea Herald on Wednesday (May 25) on condition of anonymity.

If Apple made such a move, it would allow the company to focus more on camera, battery life, and processors without having to worry about sacrificing on battery performance. Samsung and Apple are currently clashing in court over patent infringements.

Super AMOLED displays offer brighter display with less sunlight reflection and are power efficient too. The current iPad display has been criticized for not being suitable for those interested in reading eBooks in different lighting conditions however, AMOLED display could certainly help Apple overcome this issue.

Apple is one of Samsung’s largest customers of NAND flash and A4/5 processors. Samsung recently introduced its 10.1-inch Pentile display with a 2560-x-1600 resolution, going up against Apple’s Retina Display.
