Apple caused a stir last year when they deemed only iOS App Store apps worthy of Design Awards, and this year they’re opening the door to Mac apps once again – so long as they’re part of the Mac App Store.

In a note on the Apple Design Awards web page,  the Cupertino outfit informed developers of the new rule:

This year’s Apple Design Awards will be awarded to developers whose iPhone, iPad, and Mac apps are currently on the App Store and demonstrate excellence in the following areas.

The Apple Design Awards can be a license to print money for the lucky winners, but we’re sure there will be a few unhappy with Apple’s latest push toward making its App Store the place to be.

In order to be elegible, apps must be available on their respective App Stores by
